AND PATENT APPLIANCES,
for the same purpose are equally futile. Both, as regards the medicines and the appliances, it may be said that if they are good at all, they cannot, from the very nature of the disease, be good for all phases. It is an axiom in medicine that there are no specifics. What is of benefit in one phase or stage may be, and frequently is, an injury in another phase or stage : what will do one person good may be, and frequently is, detrimental to another. These remedies and appliances
WILL NOT CURE.
There is required a knowledge of the stage of the complaint, the symptoms char- acterizing it, the peculiarities of the patient, the cause or causes of the debility, the history of the weakness, etc., and without which the most skillful physician cannot expect to combat successfully and overcome that most fearful of troubles,
SEMINAL WEAKNESS.
If one suffering from its effects will pause and reflect, he will see at once that the one who has emissions with greater or less vigor does not require the same treatment as the one who has them in a dribbling manner, and that such ones need still different treatment from the one who is impotent and broken down. At one time, full, sustaining treatment is imperatively demanded; at another, equal- ization of forces is required, while at all times, SPECIAL SYMPTOMS must be met and overcome. It is absurd-it is more, for it is criminal-to sug- gest that any one remedy or appliance will cure all phases or changes; on the contrary, they can
BUT DO DIRECT INJURY,
If taken or used at all, and will utterly ruin if persisted in. Those who are afflicted should not thus endeavor to cure themselves of a complaint that requires the best skill, care and attention to overcome, demanding the study, thought and practice of years to comprehend and to successfully treat.
The Sick Should Heed the Warning,
And submit their cases only to one who is competent to advise and direct the treatment, and not aggravate the complaint by outraging the stomach and system by patent decoctions and mechanical appliances.
To the Afflicted Residing in the Interior.
My system of treatment is such that the same success marks its course when conducted by letter as by personal interview. Indeed, the greater number of my patients have never visited the Institute, but have had advice and remedies for- warded to them by mail or express. The patient is thus enabled to preserve the secret of his complaint, as all letters are returned or destroyed. All that is required is to inclose that part of the advertisement mentioning the troubles of the writer, and full and complete directions, including remedies, can be forwarded at once.
