ALPINE CENTER-(Alpine P. O.)

Alpine derived its name from the fact that it so nearly cor- responds in mountain scenery and climate to the country of the Alps. The average altitude is 2000 feet, and it is recognized as one of the favorite health and pleasure resorts. It is fast becom- ing a productive fruit and general agricultural country, the greater part of the immediate section consisting of a series of low rolling hills and mesa lands. The little town contains one of the best stores in the county, good hotel, good school, public hall, and is reached by the Cuyamaca stage-ten miles from Lakeside and 28 miles north-east from San Diego.

CHULA VISTA.

Chula Vista is a favorite suburban residence place for San Diego. It adjoins National City on the South and is the home of many San Diego professional and business men. The National City and Otay, and Coronado railroads furnish transportation facilities. Many handsome homes, in the midst of five and ten acre orange and lemon groves, graded and tree-lined streets and avenues, the 1000-acre lemon grove, good churches and schools, and many features make up the attractions for Chula Vista. This place with its abundant supply of water from the great Sweewater dam furnishes an object lesson for Southern California.
