RICHLAND.

Richland, a part of the San Marcos grant, is a most attractive valley, whose name is no misnomer as applied to its productive- ness. It is being developed into one of the best fruit bearing sections of the county. It is situated on the Escondido branch railroad, and though at present the nearest station is at Escon- dido, three miles distant, the trains stop for passengers and mail and a station is assured for this point in the near future. Has store and postoffice, with mails twice a day. Sunday school and preaching services are held at the school house each Sunday. The community is justly proud of its school privileges .. The building, a good one, recently enlarged, containing two rooms, situated on a knoll which is covered with trees of many varieties. The population has grown rapidly during the last three or four years, as shown by the last school census, numbering some 84 pupils, and is composed of farmers, fruit growers and others attracted by pleasing locality and climate. An oil well has been sunk to a depth of 120 feet with good indications of success.

WARNER.

Warner postoffice is about 65 miles north-east of San Diego, situated on Warner's ranch, about three miles from Warner's hot springs on the Agua Caliente Indian reservation. It is a cattle range, surrounded on all sides by mountains. The valley contains about 30,000 acres of fine land. The hot springs, which are noted for their curative qualities are under the control of the Indians who have built bath houses and many adobe cottages to rent to summer visitors. There are many of these hot springs where the water comes out hot enough to boil eggs.
