Sutter Township.
Sutter township is bounded on the north by the American river and Sacramento city, on the east by Brighton township, the eastern line being the same as the eastern line of American township, on the south by Franklin township, and on the west by Sacramento city and the Sacra- mento river. By United States survey it may be described as follows : Bounded on the north by the American river and Sacramento city, on the east by a north and south line running through the center of township 8 north, range 5 east; on the south by township line between townships 7 and 8 north, and on the west by the city of Sacramento and the Sacra- mento river. The lands of this township are very productive, and nearly all of them are occupied and under a state of cultivation. There are three election precincts in this township. ' Precinct No. 5-polls at Tivoli-cast at the general election of 1867 thirty-four votes, of which Gorham, for Governor, received 5, Haight 24, and Fay 5; J. P. Jones, for Lieutenant Governor, received 10, and William Holden 24.
Lake House is the only Post Office in this township.

Marriages and Divorces.
It may be well enough to notice before closing this work the connubial relations of the county.
From the 1st of December, 1865, to the 1st of December, 1866, there were 265 couples married in this county. From the 1st of December, 1866, to January Ist, 1868, there were 230 couples married, being thirty-five less than the former year.
During the year 1866 twenty-four divorces were granted, two applica- tions dismissed, and one yet pending, making a total of twenty-seven. During the year 1867 fifteen divorces were granted-eighteen cases still pending-two withdrawn, and six applications dismissed, making a total of thirty-nine for the year of those who wished to be separated, being an increase over the preceding year of twelve.
The diminution of marriages, and the increase of divorce suits, we admit, tells a little in argument on the bachelor side of the question ; but things nowadays are rapidly changing, and in order to be charitable we may give up the old fogy idea that once married, always so, and regard the condition as a living evidence of progress.
Swamp Land Districts.
No. 1 is in American township.
No. 2 lies east of the Sacramento river and north of the Mokelumne river and Snodgrass slough, being partly in Franklin and Georgiana townships.
Nos. 3, 4, 8, 31, 38, 50, 54, 55 and 56 are in Georgiana township.
No. 39 lies north of the Cosumnes river, near its mouth, and contains about five sections of land.
No. 42 is one section, owned by Baily, and is in the northeast corner of Township 7 north, Range 6 east.
No. 49 is composed of the original districts-Nos. 13, 15 and 43-and is on the south side of the Cosumnes river, opposite the Sheldon grant, or just above Hick's bridge, on the road leading to the Mokelumne river.
