The Senate is composed of two members from every State. The number is now 60. The Vice President of the United States is President of the Senate.
The House of Representatives is formed by the election of one Representatives for every 70,980 persons in each State. The present number is 229 Representatives. The compensation of the members is $8 per day during the session, and $8 for every twenty miles of travel in going and returning. The compensation of the Speaker of the House is $16 per day.
