Each of said Companies respectively may adopt such constitution, by-laws and regulations, for their govern- ment, subordinate to the ordinances of the city, as they may deem best calculated to accomplish the object hereby con- templated, and each of said companies shall, on the first Monday of January in each year, choose from among their own number a Foreman, one or two Assistant-Foremen, a' Clerk, and a Foreman of the Hlbse-company attached to or running with each of the Engine-companies, and such other officers as they may require, in accordance with their respec- tive constitutions, and in the manner provided therein.

The said engines and other fire-apparatus shall be kept in such places respectively as the City Council shall provide; and designate, and the several Companies having charge of them shall keep the same in the best order for immediate use. For the more effectually perfecting the fire- men in their duties and preserving the organization of the fire department, and keeping the engines and other fire apparatus in good order, the said Companies shall hold regu- lar meetings on the first Monday of each and every month. Every fireman (except foreman and assistant- Firemen's hats foreman of companies), attached to any fre-company 'shall, when on duty, wear a leather hat or cap of the form generally worn by firemen, the body of which shall be painted black, and the front-piece painted and lettered in such a manger as the Company to which it belongs, shall direct, also such other badge as his Company may prescribe.


SRC. 13. SEC. 19. AN ORDINANCE to Regulate the Keeping and Sale of Gunpowder.


SECTION 1. Be it ordained by the City Council of the Powder, how City of Des Moines, That no person, firm, or corporation kept. shall keep within the limits of this city, in any store, shop, House or other place, any gun- or blasting-powder in any How much. quantity at any one time, exceeding twenty-five pounds.


SEC. 2. That all powder so kept and held for sale shall Not to sell ; be kept in the manufacturers' original packages in tin canis- ters, and such packages in all cases /shall be labeled "Powder," and shall be kept remote from fires, lighted Jamps, candles, gas and other flames.

SEC. 3. No person shall sell, or weigh, or dispose of any when. powder between the time of lighting lamps or gas in the evening and daylight upon the following morning, except in covered tin canisters, labeled as aforesaid, and kept as provided in Section Two hereof. SEC 4. . Any person violating any of the provisions of. STOCK.


AN ORDINANCE to Prohibit Stock from Running at Large.


SECTION 1. Be it ordained by the City Council of the City Stock prohib. of Des Moines, That no swine, horse, mule, jackass, or bull, ited from run- and no calf, steer, ox, or other stock, except cows, shall be? ning at large. allowed to run at large within the limits of the city at any time.


SEC. 2. It shall be the right of every person authorized Stock may be impounded. in writing by the Marshal and the duty of the Marshal to impound every animal found running at large contrary to the provisions of this ordinance, in the public pound, and any person claiming any animal impounded, shall pay to the Marshal's fees. Marshal fifty cents for each swing, and one dollar for each animal of any other kind for the discharge thereof, and the further sum of twenty-five cents for each day's keeping of swine, and fifty cents for each day's keeping of any other animal, and the cost of advertising, if the same has been advertised.


SEC. 3.
