MADISON TOWNSHIP.
MADISON TOWNSHIP is located in the northeast corner of the county, and is bounded on the north by Hendricks and Marion counties, on the east by Johnson county, on the south by White river, and on the west by Clay and Brown townships. The surface of this township, except the breaks of White river, is generally rolling. The soil is of good quality, and timber in abundance for all needful purposes. There is plenty of gravel, and, in most cases, good roads. This township is watered by White river and spring branches. The church and school privi- leges of this township will compare favorably with other por- tions of the county, while her citizens are energetic, intelligent and enterprising.

MONROE TOWNSHIP.
MONROE TOWNSHIP is located in the northwest part of Morgan county, and contains 27 square miles. It is bounded on the north by Hendricks county, on the west by Adams township, on the south by Gregg and Clay, and on the east by Brown. The surface of this township is slightly rolling, with bluffs along the creeks. It is well watered by Sycamore creek and its branches. The soil of the township is more or less of a dark rich loam, mixed with sand, and produces well. There is plenty of gravel in this township to make turnpike, and the cit- izens are making use of it for that purpose. The township is third in population and second in wealth. Some of the first set- tlers of this township were Robert McCracken, Henry Brewer, Zimri Allen, James Demoss, Lot M. Hadley, James D. Had- ley, T. E. Hadley, Philip Johnson, John H. Bray (94 years), Samuel Hadley, Wm. Weasner, Woodson Lewallen, James Marley, John S. Hubbard, Daniel Ferree, Jonathan Doan, Benjamin Woodard, Hiram Hadley, Amos Marker, Evan Had- ley, Mary Myrick (widow of Charles Myrick), Mary Sanborn (widow of A. Sanborn), Sarah Grishan (widow of Thomas Grishan), Thomas Nichols, Joseph Pray, Thomas A. Johnson, Wm. B. Thompson and Wm. Bray.
Monrovia is located about the centre of the township, and contains 460 inhabitants. The present township trustee is John A. Taylor. The board of trustees of the corporation is W. R. McCracken, Dr. Jesse Reagan, J. H. Osborn, Wm. H. Mull and Philip J. Pray.

MONROE TOWNSHIP.
The school and church privileges of this township are as good as can be found in the State. Her citizens are kind, affable and intelligent. Morality, education and temperance go hand in hand here, thereby making Monrovia the resort for those who wish to educate, and the resort for the retired Israelites. Her business men are energetic and clever, and her improvements are good.
Gasburg is situated in Monroe township, on the gravel road midway between the towns of Monrovia and Mooresville, and contains about 40 inhabitants. It has I store, I shoe shop, I blacksmith shop, steam saw mill, and post office.
