The extent of ground is about the same as Mount Auburn, and enclosed with a chestnut fence about seven feet high. The gothic gate-house and lodge at the entrance, the ponds and fountains, the tower and receiving tombs, are worthy of notice. Lots are conveyed in fee simple, and are not subject to taxes or attachment, or to any assessments. The best mode of reaching Woodlawn is by Chelsea Bridge or Ferry, and Washington Avenue, passing the Carey and Carter farms. The distance is four miles from Boston, and two miles from Chelsea. This is the shortest but most hilly route By taking the Malden road, so called, the hills are avoided, without much increase of distance. An Omnibus leaves City Hotel, Brattle Street, for Woodlawn, at 2%, P. M, daily, and returns at 5 o'clock, after remaining at the Cemetery an hour and a half.
