This extensive establishment, incorporated in 1834, is located at East Boston, on Lewis street, between Webster and Sumner streets. The Company is in a prosperous condition. During the past year they have greatly improved their Refinery, by making considerable additions to it : thus affording increased facilities for the enlargement of their business, which is annually increasing.

The valuation of the land and other property of the Fast Boston Company, May 1st, 1851, was as follows :- Lands in Sections 2, 8. 4, 5. 6, 81,076,219.50 ; 518 acres Flats, south-east of sections 5 and 6, at $50 per acre, $25,900; Ferry property, $50,000 ; Notes receivable, and cash on hand, $60,122.02; Total, $1,212.241.52. The above property is represented by 20,000 shares of stock.
From the census which was taken in April, 1852, by George Adams, and from other authentic sources, it appears that the population of East Boston is now 10,978, exclusive of a large number of mechanics and others, (amounting, probably, to 500 or 600,) who are employed on the island during a portion of the year, but do not permanently reside there. The number of births during the year 1850 was 408, and during the year 1851, 594-being an increase of 186, or nearly 50 per cent. The number of families on the 1st of April, 1852, was 2,165. The number of houses inhabited by one family was 649; by two families, 540; by three families, 91 ; by four families, 27; by five families, 6 ; by six families, 3; by seven families, 1 ; whole number of occupied dwelling houses, 1,317 ; total number of buildings, 1,672. These statistics do not include the other islands which are in the same ward with East Boston.

THE EAST BOSTON WHARF COMPANY have added to their former accommodations a Block of ten large Brick Warehouses, fire-proof, well calculated for the storage of Cotton, Hides, Molasses, Salt, Dye Woods, Naval Stores, and other Merchandise. All Goods are safe from damage by water by the highest tides. Merchandise landed for storage can be received in Store at small expense for labor. Large accommodations for Wharfage of Coal, Lumber, Staves, &c.
