REPORT OF SCHOOL COMMITTEE

The report of the School Committee of the Town of Duxbury is herewith submitted, also the reports of the Superintendent of Schools, Principal of Partridge Academy and Duxbury High School, Teachers of Drawing and Music.

Quite a number of changes had been made in the teachers which is a thing to be regretted but could not be avoided.

Miss Simpson and Miss Doherty obtained better positions near their homes and their places were filled by Miss Smith and Miss Talbot. Both of these teachers are doing good work and the school has not suffered by the change.

The Drawing which was under the direction of Miss Ford for so long is now being carried on by Mr. Warner, a very able teacher, whose work in the Pembroke schools has been remark- able. We think the town is very fortunate in securing such a teacher to take Miss Ford's place. Mr. Warner came to us. through Miss Ford's recommendation. We are sorry to lose Miss Ford as she has taken so much interest in the schools, starting from the beginning, and she has obtained some very good results.

Miss Elliott was dropped and all the work assumed by Miss Hastings on account of lack of number of pupils and no assist- ant was required.

Miss Bowers resigned at the end of the Fall term and the Superintendent secured Miss Emily M. Cate to take up the commercial course.

In spite of the efforts of the committee to keep the expendit- ures down, they seem to grow a little each year. New state

laws adding a small amount. The schools have assumed the expense of the janitor at the Academy, and the transportation grows each year.

The committee meets on the first day of the month, except its falling on Sunday, when it meets the next day at one o'clock.
