The Junior High Shool will include a monthly listening lesson during the spring term. Both the Senior and Junior High Schools have learned many difficult choruses this year, and from this will be selected the graduation music.

Miss Baker and Miss Bockman are planning to give an operetta with their groups in March.

-190-

The Senior High School will present their operetta "The China Shop" in April. It is a very interesting study, and is their work for this year in music appreciation.

The cooperation of the teachers with the supervisor is greatly appreciated, and adds to our efforts much pleasant anticipation for our future plans.

Respectfully submitted,

MAY BLAIR McCLOSKY.

Report of the Drawing Supervisor

To Mr. George E. Green Superintendent of Schools Dear Sir :

The results in drawing for the past year were exhib- ited at the High School during the graduation exercises in June.

A large number of portrait drawings in black and white and pastel were shown.

The work in pastel while interesting to handle, is much more difficult of accomplish and amply proves that we have creditable draftsmen in our High School grades.

This year we are adding some new features much in de- mand such as "Art Appreciation," and color harmony in its proper application to home living and effective wear- ing apparel.

In the "Art Appreciation" course (just begun) we are taking up the works of famous Portrait and Landscape Painters of all nations and schools. Prints of the best known works are shown with detailed explanations of the various stages of the paintings. Side lights on the lives of the painters under discussion are presented. Still an- other feature to be added is the study of costumes, past and present, of all nations. This to a certain section would correlate with other studies.

With appreciation to school officials and teachers for their help and courtesy, I remain respectfully,

MR. SAMUEL WARNER.

Report of The Parent-Teacher Association

To the Citizens of Duxbury :

The Association has passed a successful year, with in- teresting and helpful programs, and an excellent group of speakers, some from without and some from our own community. There has been much interest in the topics presented, and a fair representation in attendance.

Prizes were awarded to the rooms of Miss White and Miss Rust for the largest representation of friends at the meetings. The usual gift of oranges was made to the lower grades at Christmas. A number from the school have assisted in certain of the programs.

Much interest has been taken in the movement for better motion pictures. Mrs. Ray Delano has been ap- pointed to represent the Association in this movement. The Committee on Social Service is preparing to sponsor dental examination in the schools, and work along this line for those who desire it. The Physical Education Com- mittee has given considerable attention to securing a larger measure of this type of work among the pupils. A successful swimming class was conducted by a member of the committee, Mrs. Harold Cunningham, who received merited praise for her excellent work. The Program Com- mittees have labored assiduously for the benefit of the Association.

Various suggestions are made from time to time to this organization regarding work it might undertake. Some

of these represent desirable objectives, but at present the Association is without funds to carry them out. On ac- count of the earnest efforts put forth on behalf of the pu- pils, teachers and parents, it is most desirable that mem- bership should be greatly increased. We shall be able to achieve much greater results with a much enlarged mem- bership and more money with which to work.

FREDERICK L. GRANT,

President.

Report of Selectmen

To the Citizens of Duxbury :

Your board makes the following report for the year ending December 31st, 1935.

The work of the Selectmen and various departments at the Town Office has been greatly hampered by the large numbers of State and Federal Officials requiring informa- tion and access to records.

There has been a great improvement made at the Town Landing at Blue Fish River. This now makes a safe and handy place for bathing for persons residing in the local- ity. The labor for this improvement was furnished by the E. R. A. Federal Funds.

Also curbing of the sidewalk on St. George Street.

The Washington Street curbing will be completed to Harrison Street as soon as frost is out in the spring.

The clam industry has increased to such an extent that it has become necessary to lay out a Town Landing some where on Standish Shore. The amount of clams on Cap- tains Flat are only obtainable from this point without a very long distance to travel by water. Your Board finds only one location suitable where it will not disturb the summer residents. This location is on the property of Stella E. Quinby, et al.

The completion of the new room to the Town Office building is much appreciated by the various officials.

Once again we wish to call your attention to consider carefully about requesting appropriations in excess of the last annual budget.

SIDNEY C. SOULE, HARRY F. SWIFT, CHARLES R. CROCKER,

Selectmen of Duxbury.
