ANNUAL REPORT

Report of the Trustees of the Public Library

January 1, 1948 through December 31, 1948

To the Town of Rutland:

The trustees of the Public Library have held three meet- ings during the past year. At the April meeting Bernice Putnam was elected Chairman. By the purchase of books from the New England News of Boston, we have secured a larger discount, and Dr. Dufault very kindly offered to col- lect our books and deliver them to the Library. The Libra- rian and Trustees extend hearty thanks to him for this helpful service. Thanks are also due to the various organi- zations which have helped supply our reading tables with magazines.

The linoleum which was laid in the Fall has proved most satisfactory.

ANNUAL REPORT

X-RAY CLINIC

Special interest early in February centered on the X- Ray Tuberculosis Clinic sponsored by the Southern Wor- cester County Health Association. No statistical report in connection with this project has been filed with this board - however, each person examined apparently received a personal report.

SCARLET FEVER

Three cases during the year (mild) were confined to the respective households.

MEASLES

An epidemic of measles which took hold during the Christmas Season and reporting 114 cases has apparently reached its peak. There s a marked decrease in cases.

CHICKEN POX AND MUMPS

Numerous cases of chicken-pox and mumps indicated during the year received very unsatisfactory reporting. We cannot emphasize too strongly the necessity of reporting all communicable diseases.

Respectfully submitted,
