Report of the Trustees of the Public Library

To the Town of Rutland:

This year we have tried to add to the Library shelves books re- quired for supplemental reading by the schools. We have also added up to date, science, present day history, chemistry books for High School reading, also adult books.

To save fuel for the winter months we have opened the Library on Tuesdays from 10:30 A.M. to 12:30 A.M .; 1:30 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. and 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and closed the Library on Thursday, in this way accommodating all school classes.

Approximately 750 books were donated and taken to the Worcester Library for the Victory Book Campaign, also hundreds of magazines to the Marine Library in Boston. We appreciate the public's generosity in this part of our work.

Two years of the National Geographic magazine and one year of the Playmate have been bound in book form.

Books have been presented to the Library by Mrs. Franklin T. Wood, Mrs. Ramsdell, Mr. Charles E. Carroll, Secretary of the Common- wealth of Massachusetts, Elton McGowan, Aldina Alinovi, Dupont Com- pany and Benjamin Rush.

Money for the magazine tables has been received from the Rut- land Grange, Women's Union, Eastern Star, and the Home Relief Society. Magazines have been donated by the American Humane Society, American Legion and Mrs. Franklin T. Wood.

The drop in the circulation this year was due to the schools being closed for the registration for gas and sugar and also to the bad con- dition of the weather on many library days.
