Voted, to accept the provisions of Chapter 27, Sections 74, 75, 76 and 77 of the Public Statutes of the Commonwealth, relating to mode of electing Road Commissioners, which provides that, when said Board consists of three, a town accepting said statutes may elect one for one year, one for two years, and one for three years, the same to take effect as soon as accepted.

Voted, that the town, in conjunction with the towns of Marsh- field and Duxbury, choose a Superintendent of schools.


ARTICLE 5.


Voted, that the rate of wages for removing snow be the same as last year, 25 cents per hour.

Shall licenses be granted for the sale of intoxicating liquors in this town. Yes, 31. No, 74.


ARTICLE 19.


Voted, that the School Committee be authorized to make such changes in the ventilation of the school-houses as are required by law.


ARTICLE 27.


In regard to the town raising and appropriating the sum of $500 for raising above high-water mark the new road at the Neck. Voted, No.


ARTICLE 6.


Voted, to accept the list of jurors as prepared by the Selectmen, and if any person wishes to be excused, whose name is upon the list, the Selectmen shall have the power to fill the vacancy.


ARTICLE 7.


Voted, that the town authorize the Overseers of the Poor to contract at their discretion for the support of the town's poor.


ARTICLE 8.


Voted, that the town authorize their Treasurer to borrow money, under the direction of the Selectmen, in anticipation of taxes.


ARTICLE 17.


To see what action the town will take in regard to the road leading over the cliff at North Scituate.


Voted, that the matter be referred to the Selectmen and a committee of two. Alfred Clapp, John B. Damon, Committee.


Voted, that the Road Commissioners shall cause this roadway to be made safe for the travelling public immediately.


ARTICLE 9.


To hear the report of any committee heretofore chosen.


John L. Manson, one of the committee chosen to oppose the laying out of a new road, on the petition of Azro Turner and others, made a report.


Report accepted.

ARTICLE 16.


In regard to the request and proposition of Silas Pierce to move the West Grammar schoolhouse,


Voted, that a Committee of five be nominated (by the chair) to view the premises and to report at a future meeting.

ARTICLE 10.


Voted, that the town raise and appropriate the sum of $100 for Memorial Day.


ARTICLE 11.


Voted, that the way and manner in which the taxes shall be collected be the same as last year.


ARTICLE 12.


To make allowances to town creditors.

ARTICLE 14.


In regard to buying a hearse to be kept in the east part of the town. Passed over.


ARTICLE 15.


Voted, that the town raise and appropriate the sum of $50, to grade and drain the Brook Street schoolhouse yard.


ARTICLE 18.


Relating to uniting the Beach Street school with the Charles or North Main Street school. Passed over.

Voted, that the repairing be done under the direction of the Road Commissioners, and that they put out the repairing of said road by contract to the lowest bidder.


Voted, that the Selectmen cause the Town Reports to be printed and distributed in the month of February next.


Voted, that Caleb L. Damon be paid $5, for his services as Moderator.

The Selectmen of the town of Scituate respectfully submit their annual report of the receipts and expenditures of the town for the year 1890, with estimates of the probable expenses for the ensuing year.


Support of Schools.


The town at its annual meeting held March 3, 1890, raised and appropriated $5,500.00 for the support of schools. At a meeting held April 14, 1890, the town raised and appropriated the sum of $300.00 for a Superintendent of Schools, making in all $5,800.
