The attendance for two terms was very good; but the last term serious interruption was occasioned by constant sickness.
The scholars would be encouraged by the visits of their parents, who seldom make their appearance in our schools. They would be better qualified to judge of their merits if they occasionally saw for themselves . what was being done.
Shall there not be an improvement in this respect
11
next year? We leave this question for the parents to answer.
It should be the desire of all to magnify the impor- tance of an education. Can this be better done than by spending our money and giving our interest cheer- fully and willingly to our schools?
Respectfully submitted,
JULIA E. WEBB, CHARLES E. BAILEY, JOHN L. MANSON, School Committee.
REPORT OF TRUANT OFFICERS.
To the School Committee of Scituate: -
The Truant-Officers would respectfully report as follows : -
We have attended all cases of truancy coming to our knowl- edge by teachers and others, and are glad to say have not been compelled to send any to the Truant-School, although there are some cases that should, and would, be dealt with, if the parents were not more to blame than the children, for absence from school. We are sorry to say that the cases referred to are the children of native-born Americans.
Respectfully yours, HENRY YOUNG, HOSEA D. NOTT, Truant Officers.
