STATE AUDIT OF TOWN COLLECTOR
THE COMMONWEALTH OF MASSACHUSETTS
Department of Corporations and Taxation Division of Accounts State House, Boston
March 19, 1936
To the Board of Selectmen
Mr. W. Irving Lincoln, Chairman Scituate, Massachusetts
Gentlemen :
I submit herewith my report of an audit of the books and accounts of the tax collector of the town of Scituate for the period from January 1 to March 12, 1936, made in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 44, Gen- eral Laws. This is in the form of a report made to me by Mr. Herman B. Dine, Assistant Director of Accounts.
Very truly yours, THEODORE N. WADDELL,
Director of Accounts.

State Audit of Town Collector
Mr. Theodore N. Waddell
Director of Accounts Department of Corporations and Taxation State House, Boston
Sir:
In accordance with your instructions, I have made an audit of the books and accounts of the collector of the town of Scituate for the period from January 1 to March 12, 1936, preparatory to a recommitment of taxes and departmental accounts to a new collector, and report thereon as follows:
The books and accounts of the town collector were examined and checked. The taxes, assessments, and departmental and water accounts outstanding at the beginning of the fiscal year 1936 were audited, and all subsequent commitments of taxes and water accounts were proved. The payments to the treasurer were com- pared with the treasurer's cash book, the abatements were checked to the records of the departments author- ized to grant abatements, and the outstanding accounts were listed and reconciled with the town accountant's ledger accounts.
The outstanding accounts were verified by mailing notices to a number of persons whose names appeared on the books as owing money to the town, the replies received thereto indicating that the accounts, as listed, are correct.
The total amounts outstanding on each of the several levies of taxes, assessments, and water accounts were given to the board of assessors and water commissioners

for use in preparing the recommitment, and the depart- mental accounts outstanding were given to the depart- ments concerned for their use.
The surety bond of the new collector was examined and found to be in proper form.
For the co-operation received from the several town officials during the progress of the examination, I wish, on behalf of my assistants and for myself, to express appreciation.
Respectfully submitted, HERMAN B. DINE,
Assistant Director of Accounts.
