VOTED: That the Assessors be instructed to transfer $50,- 000.00 from the Excess and Deficiency Fund to reduce the taxes for the current year. Yes. Voice vote.


ARTICLE 4


Will the Town vote to amend the section of its Zoning By-Laws by adding at the end of the first paragraph thereof the following sentence: "The Selectmen shall also appoint two associate members and in case of a vacancy, inability to act, or interest on the part of a member of said Board, his place may be taken by an associate member designated by the Chairman," so that the said section as so amended will then read as follows:


"A Zoning Board of Appeals shall be established and appointed by the Selectmen in accordance with and subject to the provisions of General Laws, Chapter 40, Section 30 as amended. Said Board of Appeals shall have all the powers, privileges and duties as pro- vided by law. The Selectmen shall also appoint two associate mem- bers and in case of a vacancy, inability to act, or interest on the part of a member of said Board, his place may be taken by an associate member designated by the Chairman. An appeal to the Board of Appeals by a person aggrieved by his inability to obtain a permit from an administrative official under the provisions of said Chapter 40, Section 25 to 30A inclusive, must be taken in writing within fifteen days after notice has been given said person of his failure to obtain the desired permit."

SPECIAL TOWN MEETING May 12, 1952


At a legal meeting of the inhabitants of the Town of Scituate qualified to vote in Elections and Town Affairs held at the High School Auditorium in said Scituate, on Monday, the 12th day of May, 1952, at 8 o'clock P.M .; the meeting was called to order by Town Moderator Philip S. Bailey.


The warrant was read by Town Clerk William M. Wade.


Tellers and checkers appointed for this meeting and sworn by the Town Clerk were: Charlotte L. Chessia, Ruth M. Meyers, John G. Vollmer, John H. McPherson, Andrews Wyman, Joseph R. Dil- lon and John E. Bamber.


ARTICLE 1


To see if the Town will vote to raise and appropriate an addi- tional sum of money to construct and equip and furnish a building addition to the present high school, and determine how the money shall be raised, by transfer of any available funds and by borrowing, or otherwise; or take any action relative thereto.


An amendment to the original motion increasing the figure of $150,000.00 up to $235,000.00 was first voted upon with the fol- lowing vote: Yes 468, No 341. As 540 votes were needed for a 2/3 vote, the amendment was defeated.


A vote was then taken on the original motion of $150,000.00 with the following result: Yes 493, No 274. As 511 votes were needed for a 2/3 vote, the original motion was defeated.


Both votes were taken by ballot and the check list was used.


The meeting adjourned at 11:10 P.M.

TOWN CLERK'S REPORT


SPECIAL TOWN MEETING December 2, 1952


At a legal meeting of the inhabitants of the Town of Scituate qualified to vote in Elections and Town Affairs held at the High School Auditorium in said Scituate, on Tuesday, the 2nd day of December, 1952, at 8 o'clock P.M .; the meeting was called to order by Moderator Philip S. Bailey.


Tellers appointed by the Moderator and sworn by the Town Clerk were: J. George Vollmer, Joseph V. Feeley, Stanley W. Curtis, Frederick C. Messenger, Joseph C. Driscoll, John E. Bamber.


ARTICLE 1


To hear the report of the Elementary School Investigating Com- mittee and take any action relative thereto.


VOTED: To accept report of the Committee as read. Unani- mous vote.


ARTICLE 2


To see if the Town will transfer from available funds a sum of money for the purchase, by the Selectmen, of land adjacent to the Jenkins School.


VOTED: That the Town transfer from available funds the sum of $4,000.00 to purchase Lots No. 6, No. 7 and No. 8 from Eugene V. Blanchard, at the rear of the Jenkins School, comprising a total of 30,451 square feet bounded and described as follows: On the north by land of the Jenkins School 332.27 feet; easterly by Lot No. 9 86.51 feet; southerly by Vinal Avenue, so called, 356 feet; and westerly by Lot No. 5 82.48 feet. Yes 257. No 9.

To see if the Town will transfer from available funds a sum of money for the purchase, by the Selectmen, of land adjacent to the Hatherly School.
