Art. 12. To see if the town will vote to build an addition to the Greenwood school building, of not less than four rooms, and raise and appropriate money therefor, and authorize the treasurer to issue notes or bonds of the town for that pur- pose, or what they will do about it.

The finance committee, through their clerk, presented a report recommending that the town build an addition to the Greenwood school house, of not less than four rooms, and raise and appropriate the sum of $15,000 therefor, said sum to cover the entire cost of the addition, purchasing and grading land, furnishing the new rooms, etc., and that a committee of five, one of whom shall be a member of the school committee, be appointed to take the entire matter in charge; said amount to be hired by the town treasurer, pay- able $750 per year for twenty years, and town's notes given therefor.


Voted. 158 to 1, to raise and appropriate $15,000 for a four- room addition to the new brick school house (in Greenwood), the town treasurer to hire said amount and give the notes or bonds of the town therefor, payable $750 per annum for a term of twenty years; this amount to include cost of additional land (if any should be purchased), grading of land, furnishing of the new rooms, etc .; the money to be expended under direction of a special committee of five, one of whom shall be a member of the school board.


Chair appointed G. H. S. Driver, C. Donovan, Silas W. Flint, Wm. C. Skulley, and J. T. Cooper. Motion to recon- sider lost.


Art. 2. To revise and accept the list of jurors prepared and posted by the selectmen.


The list was read, and was accepted by the meeting with the exception that the name of Robert J. Lawder was stricken off and the names of Henry W. Eustis, George L. Kilgore and John T. Hill added.


Art. 3. To see if the town will make an additional appropria- tion for the fire department.


Voted. $950, of which $250 is to be expended for a new supply wagon to replace the one destroyed in the great fire two years ago, the town treasurer to hire said amount and issue the town's note therefor for a term not exceeding one year.


Art. 4. To see if the town will purchase two horses for the use of the fire department, and raise and appropriate money for the same, or what they will do about it.

Art. 5. To see if the town will raise and appropriate money for the purchase of harness, hangers, etc., and make necessary alterations for the accommodation of the new Greenwood hose wagon, or what they will do about it.


Voted. $85 for harness, hangers, etc., and also that the matter of making alterations for the accommodation of the hose wagon be indefinitely postponed. Town treasurer to hire the amount and issue the town's note for a term not exceed- ing one year.


Art. 6. To see if the town will raise and appropriate one thous- and dollars for miscellaneous expenses, or what they will do about it.

Art. 14. To see if the town will raise and appropriate one hundred dollars for the suppression of the brown tail moth.

Art. 15. To see if the town will raise and appropriate fifty dollars for the suppression of the English sparrow.


Voted. To raise and appropriate $50, to be expended under direction of Mr. Kendrick, said amount to be hired by the town treasurer and the town's note given for a term not exceeding one year, etc.


Art. 16. To hear and act upon the report of the committee appointed at a meeting held June 10, 1901, under article 13, to investigate the claim of J. H. Eaton for a bounty of one hundred dollars.


Stephen W. Lufkin, who with Arthur S. Aborn, con- stituted the committee above referred to, read a written report to the effect that the bounty could not now be paid

as there appears to be no vote of the town applicable to the case, and the time for payment of bounty having expired.


Voted. To accept the report.


Voted. That further action on the subject be indefinitely post- poned.


Art. 17. To see if the town will raise and appropriate the sum of twelve hundred and fifty dollars for gas and electric extensions, or what they will do about it.


Voted. $1250, the town having at a previous meeting voted to reimburse the municipal light plant for expenditures incurred in making gas and electric extensions. This amount, also, to be hired by the town treasurer and the town's note given for a term not exceeding one year, etc.


Art. 18. To hear and act on the report of the committee appointed to build an addition to the High school building.


The committee were not ready to report, and they were granted further time.


Art. 19. To hear and act on the report of the committee appointed to draw up and revise the town by-laws.


Committee reported that sub-committees were at work, and they desired the time necessary and proper in which to formulate a set of by-laws for the government of a munici- pality the size of the town of Wakefield.


Voted. That the committee be allowed to use the sum of $100, to be taken from the miscellaneous fund, for the purpose of reporting in print.


At 10.35 o'clock the meeting was dissolved.

Forest Firewards' Report.


WAKEFIELD, JAN. 30, 1902.


For the year ending Dec. 30, 1901, there have been 45 fires attended by this department, 16 of which have been buildings fires : 6 of these the regular department was called on general alarm, and one was put out by the Greenwood Hose Co .; the other 9 were put out by this system, alone, as were the 29 brush fires.


At the request of the fire engineers we have placed with them 3 Johnson pumps, two of which are carried on the hook and lad- der truck and one on the Greenwood hose wagon.

We have paid out of this year's appropriation $156.11 which was due on bills of previous years, some of which have been running two or three years. There remains outstanding three disputed claims on the big forest fire of 1900, amounting to about $30.


We have purchased 18 new two-gallon cans and received 25 new buckets from Mr. Laybolt, paid for out of the special appro- priation of $50 of 1900.

TOWN APPLIANCES.


244 Johnson pumps, 7 balloon valves, 6 top valves, 7 bottom valves, 50 plungers, 18 two-gallon cans, 5 ft. of Johnson pump hose, 25 ironclad pails, 3 hydrant wrenches, 3 spanners, 2 reducers and a large number of cans and pails in the hands of citizens scattered throughout the town.


The pumps have all been examined and repaired, and are now in condition for immediate use.


Pump No. 10, through error in 1891, was charged to W. D. Parker. This pump in 1898 was transferred to Wm. Larchem, who has left town, and the pump has not since been located. The chief of police has now the matter in hand.
