Board of Health Report.
TO THE CITIZENS OF WAKEFIELD :
The Board of Health herewith submits its annual report. Following is a full list of contagious diseases reported to the board during the year :
Diphtheria 41. Measles 251. Scarlet fever 6. Typhoid fever 18. Smallpox 5.
Number of complaints investigated 198. Cesspools and vaults caused to be emptied 187. Number of plumbers' licenses re- newed 8.
The expenses of the board have been unusually large this year, as a result of smallpox breaking out in our town. Had this disease not appeared, our expenses would have compared with previous years.
A part of the expense of caring for the first patient, is to be met by the State.
Your board do not deem it necessary to write a lengthy report.
Our records are open, and those desirous of so doing, may obtain any details they desire, therefrom.
Your board would recommend that a permanent smallpox hospital be erected, to provide for future emergencies.
JOSEPH W. HEATH, Chairman.
WILLIAM H. McCAUSLAND, Health Officer. AUGUSTUS D. JENKINS, Secretary.
