RETIREMENTS
During the past year the Wakefield schools have lost an unusually large number of teachers through retirement.
Mrs. Stella H. Blaikie, grade 4 at Franklin, who did substitute work from 1921-1927, and who was appointed as a regular teacher in 1927.
Mrs. Elizabeth D. Burke, Woodville, who did substitute work from 1925-1927, and who was elected as a regular teacher in 1927.
Louis P. Marche, Shopwork, high school, who came to Wakefield in 1923.
Anne H. Meserve, Home Economics, high school, since 1925.
Ruth B. Spence, grade 7 at Lincoln, since 1925.
Ruth C. Webber, grade 3 at Lincoln, since 1925.
Ethel M. Wilson, grade 7 at Greenwood, since 1923.
It is difficult, if not impossible for a teacher, no matter how long her service, to estimate accurately her effectiveness in the classroom and her influence upon the boys and girls who have come under her charge. Her reward - and there is a reward - must come from the knowledge that, day by day, she has done the best of which she is capable.

142ND ANNUAL REPORT
To each of these seven teachers the School Committee and the School Department wish to express their sincere gratitude for the many years of capable, faithful, patient and valued service. May the future be kind to them and bring them additional rewards in health and happiness.

142ND ANNUAL REPORT
I
THE COMMENCEMENT PROGRAM The Class of Nineteen Fifty-Three WAKEFIELD HIGH SCHOOL Wakefield, Massachusetts
HIGH SCHOOL AUDITORIUM EIGHT O'CLOCK
JUNE THE FOURTH
ALMA MATER Alma Mater, ever loving
Of thy many children here,
Aid us always in our progress,
Guide us onward through each year.
March we forward with assurance,
Finding truth along the way.
Yearning always for more knowledge.
Seeking happiness each day. Ever mindful of our motto- "Build for character not fame"- We of Fifty-Three salute thee
And give homage to thy name.

Alma Mater, thy traditions
Cherished be throughout the years.
Wear we now our colors proudly- Blue and Gold-no thought of fears.
