In reply to a letter to the "Chairman of the Selectmen" from the secretary of the Finance Committee, regarding the Motor Vehicle Excise Tax, where a resident of West Bridgewater received an Excise Tax Bill from an adjoining town, when their car was not garaged in that town, a proper procedure would be for the owner to communicate with the Registrator of Motor Vehicles, Commonwealth Pier, Boston, stating the facts and apply for a corrected registration.

In case a person receives two or more excise tax bills, where he has sold his car and bought a new one, or ex- changed for another, he should make application for an adjustment to the local assessors within sixty days from date of transfer, or if the excise has not been committed, within sixty days from date of tax bill. The reason for paying two tax bills was because he did not apply for an adjustment within the time limit.
