ARTICLE 8. Daniel J. Collins moved to reconsider the action taken under Article 8 of the warrant. Voted, affirmative, 23; negative, 24.


ARTICLE 15. Voted-On motion of Albert K. Fuller, to raise and appropriate the sum of two thousand dollars ($2,000), to be used at the discretion of the Selectmen, for the proposed new bridge across the Agawam river, in place of the old Agawam bridge between Agawam and West Springfield.


Voted-On motion of John G. Freeland, that the sum of twenty thousand, eight hundred and eighty-five dollars, in addition to the State and County taxes, be assessed upon the polls of the inhabi- tants, and the estates of the residents and non-residents of Agawam, and be committed to the collectors of taxes on or before September 1, 1897, and that the Selectmen be authorized and directed to pro- ceed against the collectors and their bondsmen for all taxes unpaid February 1, 1898.


Voted-At 5.10 p. m., that this meeting be dissolved.

To either of the Constables in the Town of Agawam in said County :


GREETING :- In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, you are hereby directed to warn and notify the inhabitants of the Town of Agawam qualified to vote in elections, to meet in their respective polling places, viz. : Those resident in Precinct A, in the basement of the schoolhouse situated in said precinct and those resident in Precinct B, in the Town Hall in Feeding Hills, on Tuesday, the second day of November next, it being the Tuesday next after the first Monday in said month, then and there to bring in their votes for Governor, Lieutenant-Governor, Secretary, Treas- urer, Auditor, Attorney General, Representative in Congress for the First District, Councillor for the Eighth District, Senator for the Second Hampden District, Representative in the General Court for the Second Hampden District, County Commissioner, Register of Deeds and County Treasurer. The polls will be opened at six o'clock, a. m., and may be closed in four hours, and must be closed before sunset.


And you are directed to serve this warrant by posting attested copies, one in each of the Post Offices in said Town and one in the store of Hermenegilde Letellier at least seven days before the time of holding said election. Hereof fail not, and make due return of

DIGEST OF THE REPORTS OF THE PRECINCT CLEKRS. NOVEMBER 2, 1897.


Voters assembled at the polling places designated in the warrant. Sealed packages received from the Secretary of State were delivered to the Wardens, who gave receipts for the same. The ballot boxes were inspected, locked and keys delivered to Constables.


The precinct officers were sworn by the Wardens, who had previously been sworn by the Town Clerk. In Precinct A, Edward Gosselin was appointed deputy inspector in place of Amos Gosselin. In Precinct B, R. Mather Taylor was appointed teller to assist in counting the ballots, and sworn by the Warden.


In Precinct A, it was voted to close the polls at 3 p. m.


In Precinct B, it was voted to close the polls at 4 p. m.

William Savin raised the point of order that the article was illegal and out of order. The Moderator sustained the point of order. On an appeal to the house from the decision of the Moderator, the ruling of the Moderator was sustained.


Voted-On motion of William Savin, to pass over Article 2.


ARTICLE 3. To see if the Selectmen shall be, and perform the duties of Highway Surveyors in and for the Town.


Voted-On motion of William Savin, to pass over Article 3.


ARTICLE 4. To see if the Town will instruct their Selectmen in reference to a proposed highway between Westfield and West Springfield.
