Adjourned Meeting, April 18, 1892.


At 10 A. M. James W. Moore, Moderator, called the meet- ing to order. He stated the fact that there was a tie on the vote for one Auditor and some errors in the vote for Select- men and Trustee of Whiting Street Fund (as announced) ; that a re-count was petitioned for, and that the result of re- count was that Frank L. Johnson was elected Auditor, and errors in the vote for Selectmen and Trustee of Whiting Street Fund (as announced), found, but making no change in the result.


In consequence of the written opinion of Charles L. Long, Town Attorney, in regard to the legality of the votes on the Road Commissioner question, the Moderator declared Henry L. Tower elected Road Commissioner for three years.


On motion of J. H. Churchill, it was voted that the Select- men be instructed to call a special town meeting as speedily as possible, to act on revoking the act of the Town, by which the care of the highways and bridges were placed in a board of Road Commissioners.


On motion of E. K. Bodurtha, it was voted to instruct the Selectmen to insert an article in the warrant to see if the Town will make provision for the relief of the crowded con- dition of the primary school at Agawam Center.


Voted, That this meeting be dissolved.

ARTICLE 2. To see if the Town will vote to revoke the acceptance of Sections 74, 75, 76. and 77, Chap. 27,of the Pub- lic Statutes, and abolish the Board of Road Commissioners. On motion of E. K. Bodurtha, it was voted to indefinitely postpone the consideration of this Article. Affirmative, 57 ; negative, 50.


WVm. L. Meacham moved to take up Article 3. On mo- tion of E. L. Covill, it was voted to lay Mr. Meacham's motion on the table until 3 P. M.


On motion of Judson W. Hastings, it was voted to re- consider the vote to indefinitely postpone the consideration of Article 2.


On the original motion, it was voted in the negative.


On motion of Geo. H. Huntington, it was vo ed to proceed to ballot Yes or No in answer to the question " Shall the acceptance of Sections 74. 75, 76, and 77. of Chap. 27 of the Public Statutes be revoked and the Board of Road Commis- sioners be abolished ? "


Result of ballot : Yes. 90; No, 72.


The Moderator declared " The Board of Road Commis- sioners abolished, by virtue of the vote of the Town."


ARTICLE 3. To see if the Town will make provision for the relief of the crowded condition of the school rooms at Agawam Center.

On motion of Jas. W. Moore, it was voted that the Select- men be and are authorized, instructed and directed to buy or

take land and thereon build, furnish and maintain a school house on the road from Agawam Bridge to Hubbard's Cor- ner for a primary school. And are hereby authorized to lay out and expend, and borrow, if necessary, a sum of money not exceeding one thousand dollars for the purpose aforesaid.

ARTICLE 2. To see if the Town will accept the following Precincts, viz. :


Precinct A-To be that part of the Town north of the fol- lowing boundaries and monuments, namely : Starting at a stone monument on Agawam river and running southerly to stone monument on Deep Gutter road, thence southeasterly to monument near the house of Gamaliel Woodworth on main road to Feeding Hills; thence easterly to stone monu ment on Bailey Hill ; thence easterly to stone monument on Agawam Main street ; thence easterly to Agawam river to a stone monument. Said Precinct contained May 1, 1892, ninety-three legal voters and one hundred and ninety-seven assessed polls.


Precinct B-To be the remaining portion of the Town and situated south of the above described boundaries, and containing May 1, 1892, two hundred and ninety-three legal voters and three hundred and seventy-seven assessed polls.


Voted, On motion of James W. Moore, to refer the matter to the next annual Town meeting.

To either of the Constables of the Town of Agawam, in said County of Hampden :


GREETING-In the name of the Commonwealth of Massa- chusetts, you are required to notify the inhabitants of the Town of Agawam, qualified to vote in elections, to meet in the Town Hall in Feeding Hills, in said Town, on the eighth day of November next, it being the Tuesday next after the first Monday in said month, at nine o'clock in the forenoon, to bring in their votes for electors for President and Vice- President of the United States, for a member of Congress for the First Congressional District, for Governor and Lieut. - Governor of the Commonwealth, Councillor for District No. Eight, Secretary of State, Treasurer and Receiver Gen- eral, Auditor, Attorney General, Senator for Second Hamp- den Senatorial District, a Representative to the General Court for Hampden District No. One, one District Attorney for the Western District, Sheriff, three Commissioners of In- solvency, one County Commissioner and ten special Commis- sioners.


Also to vote YES, or NO, on the question "Shall the pro- posed amendment to the Constitution abolishing the property qualifications for the office of Governor, be approved and rati fied?" The polls will be opened at nine o'clock in the fore- noon, and may be closed by one o'clock, and must be closed before sunset.


And you are hereby directed to serve this warrant by posting attested copies thereof, one in each of the Post-Offices, and one in the store of Henry Lettelier,in said town, fourteen days at least before the time for holding said meeting. Hereof fail not and make due return of this warrant with your doings thereon, to the Town Clerk, on or before the time of holding said meeting.

I have posted three copies of the within warrant; one in each Post-Office, and one in the Store of Henry Letellier. JAMES M. BEAN, Constable.


Voters assembled in accordance with the above warrant which was read by the Town Clerk.


The Town Clerk then delivered to James F. Barry, chair- man of the Selectmen, a package received from the Secretary of State. The following is a copy of receipt given : "Re- ceived of Judson W Hastings, Town Clerk, a package, first set of Official Ballots, supposed to be 500 in number, together with specimen ballots and cards of instructions .- James F. Barry." Elmer E. McIntire, Lewis A. Barden, Inspectors ; and Albert K. Fuller, James H. Clark, Deputy Inspectors of Elections, appointed by the Selectmen, were sworn by J. W. Hastings, Town Clerk.


Ballot box inspected, locked and key delivered to Jacob Diegel, Constable.


First ballot deposited registered two. The register worked irregularly all day.


Voted, to close polls at 4 p. m.


H. E. Bodurtha, Wm. H. Porter, Henry W. Brown, R. M. Taylor, Ethan D. Allen, Edw. A Kellogg and Jas. W. Moore were appointed tellers to assist in counting ballots. They were sworn to a faithful discharge of their duties by the Town ('lerk.


At close of the polls, the dial registered 746, Check Lists counted in audible voice, and 413 names found checked on each.


There were two cancelled and 87 unused ballots. Ballots counted from ballot-box found to be 413. This was verified by a second count.
