REPORT OF THE SCHOOL HEALTH DEPARTMENT
To the Superintendent of Schools :
Herewith is submitted the annual report of the Health Department of the town schools.
Dr. Wheeler's medical inspection found the following : Number of children examined, 940; having no defects, 400; enlarged tonsils, 178; defective teeth, 392; enlarged glands, 183; poor nutrition, 102; heart disease, 21; poor posture, 69; fallen arches, 2; speech defects, 9.
The following is a summary of the activities of the school nurse during the year: Home visits, 508; number of children weighed, 1,044; number of visits to schools, 527 ; number of health inspections, 1,286; number of pupils taken to physician, 22; number of pupils taken for eye examinations, 16; number of pupils taken to hospital, 4; arrangements made at hospitals for removal of tonsils and adenoids, 39; taken to Westfield Sanatorium for examina- tion and X-Ray, 10.
Infectious diseases reported for the school year: whooping cough, 32; scarlet fever, 16; measles, 28; chicken pox, 47; impetigo, 23 ; scabies, 6; pediculosis, 22.
Dr. R. C. Merrill conducted Dental Clinics in the ele- mentary schools. All of the children attending school were examined and upon consent of the parents treatment was given. Dental certificates were given to each child who had dental work completed.

A Vaccination Clinic was held on June 16 for children entering school the following September, at which 68 child- ren were vaccinated.
During the summer eight children were again taken to Camp Frederick Edwards.

Article 14. To see if the Town will vote to amend its Zoning By-Laws by changing the following parcel from Residence A to Business Zone of the petition of Margaret J. Avezzie :
The said parcel is situated on the corner of Main Street and Henshaw Avenue being Seventy and 4/100 (70.04) feet frontage and Four Hundred Forty-five (445) feet in depth.
Article 15. To see if the Town will vote to amend its Zoning By-Laws by changing the following described par- cel of land from Residence A to Business Zone on the Petition of Floyd E. and Jessie M. Boyer :
Said property designated as Lots No. 11 and No. 12 as shown on a plan in Hampden County Regis- try of Deeds, book G of plans, page 44, with the exception of the Southerly 50 feet of said lots ; beginning at the intersection of the Southeasterly line of Adams Street with the Westerly line of

Ridge Avenue; and running thence Southwesterly on said Adams Street 142.80 feet; thence Southerly by lot No. 13 on said plan 110.66 feet ; thence East- erly by the remaining portions of said lots No. 11 and No. 12 on said plan 100 feet; and thence Northerly by Ridge Avenue 212.60 feet.
Lot designated No. 13 on said plan : beginning at the point where it joins lot No. 12 on Adams Street and running thence Southwesterly on said Adams Street 81.79 feet, thence Southerly 93.48 feet; thence Easterly 50 feet to lot No. 12 as shown on said plan and thence Northerly by Lot No. 12 as shown on said plan 160.66 feet.
Article 16. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of $5,000.00 for Chapter 90 work on Suffield Street.
Article 17. To see if the Town will appropriate the sum of $1,250.00 for Chapter 90 maintenance on Spring- field Street.
Article 18. To see if the Town will vote to authorize the Town Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow money from time to time, in anticipation of the revenue of the financial year beginning January 1, 1938 and to issue a note or notes therefor, payable within one year, and to renew any note or notes as may be given for a period of less than one year in accordance with Section 17, Chapter 44 of the General Laws.
Article 19. To hear and act upon the report of a Build- ing Committee appointed at a special town meeting held May 13, 1937, to bring in plans and estimates for an addi- tion to the present school building at Agawam Center of a new building.
Article 20. To see if the Town will vote to construct, equip and furnish a new building at Agawam Center, or an addition to the present building with needed alterations

therein as outlined by plans presented by a special com- mittee on schoolhouse needs, or take any action regarding the same.
Article 21 To see if the Town will vote to appropriate the sum of $145,000 or any part thereof for the purpose of constructing, equipping and furnishing a new school building at Agawam Center, or an addition to the present building with the necessary alterations therein, and auth- orize the Treasurer, with the approval of the Selectmen, to borrow said sum or any part thereof, or act in any way relating to the same.
Article 22. To see if the Town will appoint a commit- tee to consider the improvement of mail facilities of the Town and report at a future town meeting.
Article 23. To make the necessary appropriations for the ensuing year.
Article 24. To transact any other business that may legally come before said meeting.

Voted: To accept the report of the Town Officers as printed, errors and omissions excepted.
Article 3. To see what method the Town will adopt for the support of Public Welfare for the ensuing year.
Voted: To leave the method of support of Public Welfare in the hands of the Board of Public Welfare.
Article 4. To see if the Town will appropriate a sum of money for the proper observance of "Memorial Day" and provide for its expenditure.
