REPORT OF ROAD COMMISSIONERS AND SUPERINTENDENT OF STREETS
January 1, 1941.
Board of Selectmen Tewksbury, Mass.
Gentlemen:
The following is our report for the year ending December 31, 1940:
CHAPTER 81, AND GENERAL HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE
The usual highway maintenance was carried out during the year and all oiled roads were patched where necessary with bituminous material during the spring and summer months, and this procedure was carried out into the late fall. Many of the streets, which were graveled during 1939, have been shaped, rolled and oiled.
We have been very fortunate in having the W. P. A. Farm to Market Roads Project again this year. Gravel has been applied to Patten Street, French Street, Pine Street, Pupkis Street, Chestnut Street and McLaren Road under this project. Our Department has supplied trucks and has purchased all of the gravel used on these streets.
We wish to take this opportunity to thank Mr. King for the splendid co-operation he has given us in carrying out the work on the Farm to Market Roads.
This year our Department has spent approximately $800.00 for street, town line and traffic signs, which were set up on the principal streets. This town is sadly in need of such signs, and it is our desire to have additional signs erected in the near future. It will interest many to know that this Town has adopted the traffic rules and regula- tions set up by the Department of Public Safety.
Through the efforts of Mr. Sterling, we have acquired a 5-ton Mack truck, in good condition, at no cost to the Town. We have pur- chased a Baker Reversible Blade Plow to be used on same. This will be a fine piece of equipment for heavy duty.
The following table gives the amount in gallons of tar, oil, and cut-back used on the highways during the past year. Where tar is shown delivered to the Town Yard it was used in mixing patch.
