It has not been possible to buy as many books as usual but m fiction at least an old book unread is a new book to the one who has not read it so we have tried to satisfy the borrowers with older worthwhile books which are apt to be forgotten in the rush for the latest. In non-fiction, however, it is more necessary to have the latest book's due to the rapid advance in new fields of science and even new facts discovered in history and biography.
In this period of unemployment many more people have the time to read and also need the temporary escape from worry which books can bring. Many also should be making use of their spare time to prepare for better jobs in the future. The library can be of help in this by having on hand and loaning books on vocational guidance and various occupations.
Necessary repairs to the building cost an unexpected sum this year which further reduced the amount available for books. It was also necessary to defer again the redecorating of the upstairs rooms which has been planned for ever since those on the lower floor were done.
The circulation of the magazines has remained about the same. All except current numbers may be borrowed and the list for the coming year is as follows:

REGULATIONS
The J. V. Fletcher Library is open Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sat- urdays (legal holidays excepted) from 1.30 till 5, and from 6.30 till 9.00 P. M.
The Graniteville deposit station at the home of Mrs. Carrol M. Sawyer is open Monday afternoon and evening.
The Forge Village deposit station at the Post-Office in charge of Mrs. Josephine Connell is open daily .
The Brookside deposit station at Community Hall in charge of Mrs. Alice McTeague is open Thursday evenings.
New books of fiction can be kept only one week; but there may be one renewal. All other books may be kept four weeks. Renewals may be made by telephone or by postal.
No book shall be transferred, or acknowledged as returned, unless delivered to the librarian.
For each day that a book is kept beyond the prescribed time a fine of one cent is charged.
Borrowers finding books mutilated or defaced should report the fact to the librarian.
