The most complete and satisfactory re- port ever heretofore made by the Board, has been published for the year 1859-60. It has been ably methodised, and the ta- bles contain all desirable information. From allusions to the efficient services of Messrs. Warner and Wilkins, by the President, D. B. Duffleld, the Detroit community have much reason to feel well pleased with the election of these valued friends of the cause of our governmental system of public in- struction, than which it is manifest, there is no public educational system superior in the world.
The folowing are the totals of pupils at- tending the schools, as gathered from the reports of the Union School teachers:

There are some curious facts shown in the first statement. For instance, the Post Office at Ann Arbor, which has not as large a population as Adrian, Grand Rapids, or, probably, Kalamazoo and Flint, has greater nett proceeds than all these. Is this attributable to the Univer- sity and a large body of students, or what is the cause ?

The State University is at the city of Ann Arbor, 39 miles from Detroit, West- ward, on the Michigan Central Railroad, The population of Ann Arbor may now, probably, be 8,000. The College grounds are very pleasantly situated, and the en- circling landscape is cheerful and charm- ing. The clear, gravelly-bedded Huron wends its way through the city. The cir- cumjacent country is rather thoroughly improved, and of undulating and pleasing- ly diversified aspect. Our public institu- tions are located with a correct regard to their distribution over the whole area of the division of the State called "the lower penin- sula." Ann Arbor was fortunate in being se- as the site of the State University. Be- tween five and six hundred students, as. semble here, and it is reported favorably of the discipline of the several departmenta of the University, that the general morality and gentlemanly deportment of this large number of young men, separated from the restraints of domestic control, are not sur- surpassed at any similar institution in America.
