In Oct. of that year she and her settlers were driven off by the Indians to Amers- foort (Flds), where they remained to the end of the Indian war and then returned to Gd. Her name, with that of Sir Henry Mody her s., Ensign George Baxter, and Serjeant James Hub- bard, appears on the patent of Gª of Dec. 10, 1645, and in 1646, on the laying out of the plantation-lots, she was allotted a bouwery. She appears to have owned and occupied a farm ad- joining that of Robert Pennoyer, since of Van Brunt Magaw and late of Judge Samuel Smith, and, as near as can be ascertained, covering the farms late of Jacobus Lake and that late of Der- ick Stryker. Nov. 22, 1648, she let all her "broken up" (cleared) land, excepting one piece she reserved for her own use, for 3 years to " Thos. Cornewill," she furnishing him with 4 oxen and 4 cows ; he to pay 10 skipples of wheat per annum rent for the land and 60 gl. per annum for the use of the ani- mals. A dispute having arisen between her and her tenant about the " breaking up" (clearing) a piece of land, and left to arbitrators, they decided May 5, 1650, that Cornewill should be allowed to crop the land next year, and that she should pay him 15 gl. on the surrender of the same, as per Gd rec.
