bought of Leffert Pieterse lot No. 41 in the new lotts of Flh for 1000 gl., as per p. 27 of Lib. AA of Flh rec .; in 1680 he paid 5 gl. towards the clergyman's salary; and in 1683 was assessed for 108 A. in said town. There was an Andries Andriese, a Fin, from Westerover or Westeroos in Sweden, among the Swedes on the Delaware from 1659 to '70, who received upwards of 571 gl. from 1659 to '63 as car- penter of the galiot; his w. and house being referred to in 1662; and in 1669 was fined 50 gl. for being engaged in the rebellion of the Long Fin, as per Vol. II. and XII. of Doc. of Col. His. Also an Andries Andriesen, who bought Sept. 10, 1655, of Lieve Jansen a plantation adjoining Hell- gate on L. I., and July 11, 1660, obtained a patent for a lot on the W. side of Smith St. in N. A., as per Cal. of Dutch Man .; and also an " Andries Andriezen," who took the oath of allegiance to the English after the conquest of the colony in 1664. It is probable that the Andries Andriesen of Hell- gate and of N. A. was the father of Adriaen Andries, and there is some reason to suppose that the Andries Andriese the Swede was the same person. Issue :- Andries (or An- drew) Adriaense; (sup.) Adriaen Adriaense; and (sup.) Hendrick Adriaense-the two last of Foster's Meadows. Made his mark to documents in 1655, '78, and '84.
Andries Adriaense, m. Nov. 11, 1683, at Flh, Maria Van Vliet. On the marriage registry he is entered as being a native of New Castle (on the Delaware), and as both being residents of Flb at the date of the marriage. He d. prior to Aug. 13, 1687, for on that date his wid. m. Jacob Janse Vanderbilt of Manhattan I. His name appears on the lists of communicants of the D. ch. of Flh from 1677 to '85. From F1h, as per Riker's Newtown, he removed to the W. bounds of Ja, where he was killed, it is said, by the upsetting of a load of straw. His sons sold his Ja farm in 1707 and re- moved to Hempstead. Issue :- Adriaen, bp. Aug. 24, 1684, at N. U., m. Sarah Snediker; and Andrew, b. June I and bp. June 13, 1686, at Flh, m. June 2, 1706, Gertrude dau. of Hendrick Lott. Signed his name "Anderese Onderdonk" in 1685.
OP DYCK or OP TEN DYCK, GYSBERT, of N. A., emigrated from Wesel in 1635, m. Catharine Smith. In 1642 was com- missary of provisions for the colony. Obtained a patent May 24, 1664, for Coney I. which was afterwards declared void, as per p. 10 of Vol. X. of Part I of Dutch Man. He afterwards undertook the making of salt on said island, in which he was opposed by the residents of Gd, who paid La Chair, their attorney, 8 skepels of gray peas for his legal ser-

The present Coney I. was, on the first settlement of this country, composed of 3 separate islands, divided from each other by inlets or guts now closed. The westernmost one was known as Coney .I., the middle one as Pine I., and the easternmost one as Gisbert's or Gysbert's I., so named after Gisbert Opdyck. At a later period the easternmost one was also known as Johnson's I., from Barent and William John- son at one period owning the tillable land (about 60 A.) on the same. About 1670 the inhabitants of Gd at a town meeting directed the division of the tillable land, which ap- pears to have been allotted among the then residents of the town, as per Gd rec., as follows:

PENNOYER, ROBERT, of N. A. as early as 1642, and among the early settlers of Gd in 1643, where he obtained a patent from Gov. Kieft for So morgens dated Nov. 29, 1645, lying between the land of Lady Mody and that of Anthony Jan- sen from Salee, for which patent there was an agreement of sale dated Apl. 1, 1653, by Wm Goulding as his attorney, to Arent Van Hattem, as per p. 371 of Cal. of Dutch Man., but of which the papers do not appear to have been signed. In addition to this patent, he appears to have owned other

lands in Gd (his patent being outside the original boundary of the town), for in Sept. 1647, John Ruckman and Richard Uzell bought of Roger Scott a plantation formerly of Rob- ert Pennoyer, and Sept. 4, 1649, bought of the same parties a house and lot also formerly of Pennoyer, as per Gd rec. Nov. 1, 1665, George Baxter sold to John Tilton of Gd "a piece of land purchased of Robert Pennoyer, as also further confirmed unto me by Mon' Pieter Stuyvesant late Govern- our," etc., containing " 75 Dutch morgens," and " of ye wch James Hubbard & my selfe did bestowe on ye town of Gravesende & was hired yearly as by there Records bear- ing date ye 7th December 1653," etc. This abstract from the Gd rec. appears to refer to Pennoyer's original patent obtained from Gov. Kieft, which patent, judging from the letter of Gov. Stuyvesant to Lady Mody referred to on p. I4I of the Cal. of Dutch Man., he sold prior to Sept. 3, 1654. He made his mark to documents, and probably left descendants.

D. ch. of that city on certificate from L. I. Pre- vious to this he resided in Flh, where he took the oath of allegiance in 1687, was on the patent of 1685, ass. roll of 1693, cornet of horse in 1690, as per p. 197 of Cal. of Eng. Man., and capt. of militia. Dec. 19, 1702, he purchased of the heirs of his father the homestead farm of about 104 A. in Flh, as per p. 247 of Lib. 2 of Con. In 1730 his heirs conveyed these premises to Abm Lott, from whom they passed, through his son Engelbert, to his grandson the late Jeremiah Lott. Dec. 28, 1702, he conveyed to Ryck Hen- drickse (Suydam) of Flh, for £202, 20 morgens in FIh, bounded S. by the lane leading from Flh. to N. U., N. by Daniel Remsen's land, E. by John Damen's land, and W. by the highway on the rear of said land leading from Roelof Verkerk's house to N. Y .; also one fourteenth of the brew- house in FIh, as per p. 255 of Lib. 2 of Con. This appears to be the westerly and main portion of the land lying on the S. side of what is known as the Little Lane, lately of Tunis Bergen, Lott, and Duryea. ily, emigrated in the employ of the West India Company from the Netherlands to Itamarca, Brazil, and thence to L. I., where he officiated in the churches of Kings Co .; m. Catharina Van Werven; and d. June 8, 1676. Obtained June 25, 1662, a patent for 25 morgens in Flh, and bought Mar. 6, 1674, of John Sebering an adjoining patent of 24 morgens which had been originally granted, June 25, 1662, to Cornelis Swaelwood, and sold by the latter to Sebering. Dec. 25, 1680, a confirmatory patent was granted by Gov. Andros to Catharine wid. of Do. Polhemius for all the above premises with a small addition, containing 104 A. and 360 rods. Dec. 19, 1702, the heirs of Do. Theodorus and Catharine Polhemius conveyed the same to Daniel Polhemus, as per p. 247 of Lib. 2 of Con.
