HISTORICAL SOCIETY OF OHIO.
During the year no large donation of books or pamphlets has been made, but the collection of old and valuable news- papers has been greater than usual.
Through the efforts of Mrs. McLaughlin, in securing sub- scriptions, we have an excellent portrait of Daniel Vaughan, painted by O. T. Webber, as an important addition to the Cabinets.
The facilities afforded by our present building for better classification of the Society's property, are being improved ; during the year, Mr. Bliss having arranged all the magazines (including duplicates) in very perfect order, while Miss Apple- ton has done similar work among the letters and manuscripts. Shelving has also been placed in the third story sufficient to accommodate the large collection of duplicate books and pamphlets. The work of assorting and placing these dupli- cates on the shelves, has been commenced, and it is hoped they may prove a source of profit to the Society, in making ex- changes with other libraries.
Respectfully submitted, C. W. LORD, Librarian.

REPORT OF RECEPTION COMMITTEE.
It was thought desirable that the Association should in some way celebrate the Centennial, avd invitations were issued for an evening reception at the Society rooms, December 28, 1885, on which occasion the Hon. Rufus King read an interesting paper. Simple refreshments were served. A number of additional corpo- rate members was the outcome of this reception, and it was re- solved that the committee be continued.
Two afternoon meetings were held in the spring. when papers were read by Dr. Comegys and Mr. Sheldon Emery; and at an evening reception, November 29, Mr. E. F. Bliss read a paper.
The good results of these receptions have been made evident to the Society by additions to the list of corporate members, and the ladies of the committee recommend to the Board a continuance of them.
Respectfully submitted, LOUISE N. ANDERSON,
