Population. 3,000. An incorporated town on the C., O. & G. Rs., in the Choctaw Nation, 15 miles east of South MeAlester. It is located in the heart of a great coal mining region, and has many advantages for becoming a good- sized city in the near future. The Me-
Alester Coal Co. has general offices here, and has a payroll of $50,000 monthly. The Bank of Hartshorne is now open for business with a capital of $25,000. There are several large business blocks and more in course of construction. The religions denomina- tions are well represented, having Bap- tist. Catholic. Methodist and Presby- terian churches. Fine residences and good schools are also noticeable. - A wholesale grocery, produce house, a machine shop, a cotton gin, planing mill and opera house with a seating capacity of 300. Hotel Scott). is located here. two blacksmith shops, one harness shop. telephone system. one ice and electric light plant in construction. two wholesale grocery houses. three whole- sale packing houses. three churches, - Baptist, Methodist Episcopal South and Methodist Episcopal. a good sys- tem of free public schools and a hand- some stone school building will be erected immediately. The city is grow- ing rapidly in population. Have many beautiful homes and numerous busi- ness blocks of brick and sandstone, while many others even better are be- ing constructed.
