OKMULGEE.
Population 2.000. Capital Creek Na- tion. an incorporated city located on the St. L. & S F. Ry .. 32 miles south of Sapuipa and 350 miles southwest of Kansas City. Mo. Besides the above road several other lines have been surveyed through the city. two of which will be built this summer. with these roads running into the city there is no doubt that it will become one of the railroad centers of the territory. The situation of the city is picturesque being surrounded by rolling prairies and low wooded hills, the land sur- rounding is unsurpassed, being rich and produces large crops of corn, cot- ton, wheat, rye and oats. The climate is the finest in the territory. the city
being so located that winds of the country east and west of this section do not prevail. The city has fine up- to-date business blocks of brick and stone. one of the largest mercantile houses in the territory, Parkinson, Trent Mercantile Co .. do an enormous business. The . Creek capital and Creek Orphan Asylum are located here, has two banks, cotton gins. good hotels, three weekly newspapers, The Creek Chieftain. Democrat and Capi- tol News. Has Baptist, Presbyterian and Christian churches and good schools. Coru, cotton, hay, grain and live stock are the leading productions. Mail daily. Stage daily to Muskogee. fare $2.00. It now goes without say- ing that Okmulgee is to be one of the. very best of the many good towns of the Indian territory. In point of loca- tion. resources, wealth and enterprise it is excelled by none. It has a com- mercial club which any town of more pretensions might well be proud of that leaves nothing undone for the up- building of the town and convenience of its people.
The new administration has just been inaugurated with S. L. Johnson. mayor and Frank Haven, Tom Wal- lace, W. A. Morton. Dr. Bell and F. F. Lamb as the council. With these gen- tlemen at the head of the city's affairs and with her many good people. Ok- mulgee will be made a place fit for : king to live in. At the recent eler- tion $20,000 in bonds were voted for building and equipping a school house. The Choctaw railroad has completed arrangements for building through this town. This will give Okmulgee three railroads. The Indian appro- priation bill which has passed the lower house of congress and has been reported from the senate committe carries with it a provision for mak- ing Okmulgee a place for holding a United States court. It would un- doubtedly soem from a survey of Ok- mulgee and its surrounding territory that there is no better business luca- tion in the territory than Okmmige .. Tel .. W. U. Exp .. W. F. & Co. R.
