Population 2,000. An incorporated city located on the St. L. & S. F. Ry .. in the Creek Nation, 60 miles west of Vinita and 117 miles east of Oklahoma City. The country surrounding the town is rich and well adapted for agri- cultural purposes. The city has two flouring mills and grain elevators, two brick plants, an ice plant, two banks, Marr's Commercial College and Short- hand and Typewriting Institute has just opened for business in their new brick building, and promises educa- tional advantages equal to any school in the country. The press is repre- sented by two weekly newspapers, the Democrat and Republican. The city has five churches, Methodist, Presby- terian, Baptist, Adventist and Catholic. Population. 3.000. An incorporated city. Located at the junction of the 31. K. & T. and St. L. & S. F. Rys., in the Cherokee Nation, 359 miles from St. Louis and 207 miles from Kansas City, Mo. Vinita on account of its central location in the heart of the great prairie section of the Cherokee Nation, is fed by the finest and most productive agricultural lands in the Indian Territory. It is the largest market for upland prairie hay, high grade, in the country and ranks with the highest in corn and wheat. Trade Is drawn from a rich and fertile coun- try. Every line of business is well represented by wideawake and enter- prising men of good financial standing. Most of the business houses are mod- ern two and three story brick and stone. A United States Court is lo- cated here. It has schools and colleges and numerous other advantages and is becoming more and more a city of beautiful homes. Two large wholesale grocers supply the retail trade. Sev- eral Artesian wells supply an abun- dant amount of pure water. A sys- tem of water works is now contem- plated. An electric light plant is in operation and furnishes light to the city. Has three banks, flour mill, grist mill. machine shop. steam laundry and bottling works and ice plant. Has good hotels, the Western being the leading commercial hotel. Churches are rep- resented by Methodist. Baptist. Pres- byterian, Episcopal. Congregational and Catholic, who have fine buildings. The educational advantages are first class. The Willie Halsell College and the Sacred Heart Institute being lo- ratel here. The press is represented by one daily, The Chieftain, and three Wreklies, The Leader, Republican and The Chieftain.
