Population 2.500. Chickasaw Nation. Is pleasantly situated on an elevation on the west bank of the Canadian river. A division point of the A., T. & S. Fe and G. C. & S. Fe. Ry. The companys machine shops. round houses and division headquarters are located here. It is 106 miles north of Gaines- ville, Tex .. and 33 miles south of Okla- homa City. A bridge three-fourths of a mile long spans the river at this point. connecting with Lexingson, Okla .. an enterprising city of some 1,500 population. Purcell is the seat of the U. S. Courts for this district. 'The city is substantially built, its busi- ness houses being mostly two-story brick structures. Numerous well- stocked special and general stores, a bank, with a combined capital and sur- plus of over $100.000. There is also located here a flour mill with 1.000 barrels daily capacity; also an elecator with 200.000 bushels capacity. A wholesale grocery, steam laundry, elec. tric light plant. two cotton gins, three hotels, one weekly newspaper. The - Purcell Register, good public schools. a convent and Indian school and lead- ing churches. Tri-weekly mail to Womack, 22 miles northwest. to Dib- ble. 17 miles west, also through stage to Chickasha. 40 miles west. The principal shipments are cotton, live Stock, grain, produce and groceries.
