THE whole diftance from the North-Weft corner of Front and High-ftreet, to the North-Eaft corner of High and Ninth- reet, is 4064 feet, or 246 perches and about one third of a erch, including the breadth of feven ftreets.


High-ftrest is remarkably falubrious. The number of deaths in is ftreet, from the river to Ninth-ftreet, from the commencement f the epidemic in 1793, to the 5th of October, was 39. At that me 799 white perfons had left this ftreet, and 794 remained ; and le houfes fhut to the open ones, were as 3 to 2.

Each of the 30 pay 5 dollars per quarter, the Arched ones 4 dolls. the remaining 30 Stalls are occupied by the country people.


Forty-eight Stalls are put up and taken down twice a week for per- ons who fell vegetables, 24 of them pay each 25 dollars per quarter, the other 24 pay 24.


The rent of the whole market-houfe amounts to 4,376 dollars per annum.


The old Court-houfe is attached to the Middle Market Shambles ; an apartment in it is appropriated for the ufe of Mr. Peter Smith and Mr, Barney Cart, clerks of the market. The five city commiffion- ers meet in another apartment there twice a week; and the county commiffioners meet there every day. The Governor is proclaimed from the balcony ; and all bills of divorce from the fupreme court are publifhed from it, according to cuftom. The account of dif- tances from the city, in every direction, is computed from this, as a central point.
