MONUMENTS AND STATUARY
OF ALL KINDS,
EXECUTED ON THE SHORTEST NOTICE.
MONUMENTAL ARCHITECTURE.
We have frequently had occasion to admire the taste in design and beauty of finish of the Monumental Architecture produced by Mr. Joseph Maples, at the corner of Broad and Arch Streets, and we gladly give place to the follow- ing, from the pen of Robert Morris, Esq., editor of the Pennsylvania Inquirer, which sets forth, better than we could hope to do, the peculiar advantages of applying to Mr. Maples for any article in the line of his profession :
" There are few who have contributed more to the improvement of Monumen- tal Architecture, in beauty of design, and skill of execution, than our fellow citizen, Mr. Joseph Maples. To eluci- date this, we need only refer to the imposing and attractive appearance of the beautiful Tombs and Monuments which embellish his yard, at the corner of Broad and Arch Streets. We have rarely, if ever, seen more classic taste displayed than is there exhibited in the execution of a splendid Gothic Tomb. In this style of architecture, Mr. Maples has but few equals in our country, arising, doubtless, from his long experience and well cultivated taste, as well here as in Europe, where he has extensively traveled for the sole purpose of acquiring as great proficiency as possible in the Gothic and other styles of Architecture."
