LIC VING RODS
To all those who intend protecting their property from lightning. a few facts may not be unwelcome. The Electric Magnet Lightning Rod has been before the public for twenty years ; has been the means of saving a vast deal of property, and many lives ; and has never, in a single instance, failed to meet the highest expectations of its value. Ilundreds of our own citizens can testify, from their own knowledge, of its ability to protect property in safety; who have been eye-witnesses where buildings, public and private, churches and school-houses, have been saved from destruction ;- the rod re- receiving. and carrying harmless to the ground, strokes which, but for it, would have caused the total ruin of the building and all within it.
The superiority of these rods over any others in use, has been testified to by men who have no superiors in general science or in this department. Recommendations, to the number of six thousand, can be seen at the factory.
The United States' Patent Office is protected by my Rods, having been selected from all others in use, as the best and most reliable. Considering the character and position of the men who have charge of that institution, no higher testimony could be desired. Persons residing at a distance should be on their guard against a class of swindlers who, by false representations of every description, scek to mislead the purchaser.
Where my agents are not personally known as such, the only safe plan is to apply, by letter or otherwise, at the Factory.
Weather Vanes, Cardinal Points, Spire Rods,
And all manner of Scroll and Fancy Iron Work, to suit all characters of Architecture, got up in the ncatest and most durable manner, at the lowest cost price.

THE UNRIVALLED PATENT UNION FARM AND
PLANTATION MILL.
FARMERS, PLANTERS AND MANUFACTURERS :
We offer you the most efficient, simple, and durable Farm and Plantation Mill ever brought to your notice, it is new in its construction. Two separate Letters' Patent having been granted by the United States Patent Office upon the Mill during the month of May, 1859.
Our Grinding surfaces are entirely new and patented. The Union Farm and Plantation Mill presents double the amount of Grinding Surface over any other Portable Grist Mill in the market, and does its work with less power for the fineness of the meal or substance ground. The mill is so complete in its arrangement and construction, that any farm hand can take the mill apart and replace it without the possibility of getting any of the parts misplaced. Our Grinding Surface is made removable, so that when become worn out they can be replaced at a trifling cost, and without removing the Mill from its box ; by this new feature in our Grind- ing Surface, we are enabled, by a process of our own, to make them as hard as steel, making a Mill that is durable, and one that will, with proper management, grind from ten to fifteen thousand bushels of feed at least, before they are worn out.
The originality and efficiency of our new and patented device for Cutting and Grinding Corn from the Cob, is apparent to any Farmer, Planter or Miller, when once seen in operation ; from the peculiar construction of this device, all substances which may be fed into the Mill, are cut and crushed with a shere cut, the easiest and best manner known to Mechanics; and all substances, such as Corn in the Cob, Sumac, Roots for Medicine, &c., when cut and crushed are from the nature of the Cutter Head, forced toward the Grinding Burr ; it is a propellor in principle, and for feeding light substances to a Mill, such as Sumac, it has no equal. The best Cast Steel Knives are used upon the Cutter Head, and can be sharpened or whet up with- out removal.
The Mill makes fine Flour for family use ; Grinds all kinds of Grain for feed with great ra- pidity. The small amount of room required (being less than four feet square,) is another object to the Farmer and Planter. The Mill can be run and is adapted to either Steam, Water or Horse Power. Weight, of Mill, less than 300 pounds. Directions for running accompany each Mill.
