A suthicient numher of substantial school buildings, including a magnin- cent high school, are operated by the city. In addition to the regular studies. manual training and domestic science are regularly taught. Graduates from the High School are admitted hy their

other colleges of merit. In addition to this, the Medical Department of the State University is located here. there are a number of academies parochial schools, private institutions and busi- ness colleges.

The water supply is artesian. It is

obtained at a point about eighteen miles distant on the mainland and brought to Galveston through pipes; is almost absolutely pure. The fire department. including fire

ample and Galveston enjoys the unique distinction of having the lowest fire rate of any city in the State of Texas. The climate of Galveston is exception- ally even. The Gulf stream flowing by the city preserves an even temperature the year round. While located further south in the United States than any city of its size, the summer temperature is remarkably low, the average maxi- mum for the months of July and August for the past ten years being a little in excess of SS degrees, while frost in the winter is a rarity.

The salt atmosphere eradicates all malarial influences; and on account of the low altitude, Galveston is a mecca for those suffering fromit nervous troubles or the influences of catarrh or hay fever.

LINOTYPE

An Absolute Necessity in Every Daily Newspaper Office

The Greatest Invention of the Twentieth Century

This invention offers you the greatest investment opportunity of the present age.

This is a new invention for the transmission of telegraphic news dis- patches; fully perfected, practically demonstrated, patented and protected in every civilized country on the globe.

The Electric Teletype embodies an automatic control of the typesetting machines whereby news dispatches may be instantly transmitted from any given point simultaneously to every newspaper office in the world where telegraphic news is handled, and set in type ready for printing.

The message is merely written by the reporter in the sending office on an electrical typewriter connected by Associated Press wires with the Mer- genthaler typesetting machines in the composing rooms of every newspaper on the circuit, and these machines automatically set the story in type form ready for printing as fast as it is written on the electric typewriter in the originating office.
