drilled. 263 feet. was finished in water bearing sand. The water supply is ap- parently . Inexhaustible and is nature's purest, several wells are pumping daily from 1000 to 2000 gallons per minute without diminishing the supply. One well can easily irrigate 160 acres.
Nature has done a wonderful thing for this country. given a soil as fertil as the Nile, with vast fields as level as a table. and a climate that is ideal for plant growth, yet on the surface the one essential is lacking-moisture-but just beneath this surface nature has placed a vast inexhaustable sea of purc crystal water, so that man using his ingenuity may reach down and bring forth this natures gift and cause these semi-arid plains to bloom as a garden. The soil and climate are well adapted to the growth of wheat. oats, rye. barley, altal- fa, kaffir, maize and other forage crops. melons, fruits, celery and intensificd farming.
Hereford has good schools. Baptist. Catholic, Christian, Methodist and Pres- byterian churches. 3 banks, a weekly newspaper, The Brand, $125.000 court house. paved streets. electric lights, wa- ter works and sewer system, substantial buildings and a full line of up-to-date retail stores.
