SALLING CEMETERY - Clinchport #119

By RANDY M. BAIRNSFATHER and S. P. HARRIS

Visited July 1980

Located next to cove creek, Slant, Va. "I remember walking down the road (Route 65) past the church in Slant. We called at LORETTA SALLING's house and she told us about the cemetery up in the woods a distance, past Cove Creek. S.P. HARRIS and I walked thru the brush and found it easily. However, I copied only the SALLING headstones. There were many more burial places there." RANDY M. BAIRNSFATHER

CEMETERY NOT NAMED - Clinchport #125

By LILBERN G. GILLIAM

"South of the road some 150/200 feet was a graveyard about 100 feet square. The tombstones were moved into Copper Creek, I am told, by one CHARLIE THOMAS LARK, and plowed over the graves to farm there. He died about 1938-41. I understand these relatives of the ones plowed over were preparing to sue him for this deed. I could find no sign of graves or tombstones. I was told they were seen piled in the graveyard." L.G.G.
