After attending the public schools of Rouses Point and Franklin Academy at Malone, New York, John R. Myers entered St. Mary's College at Montreal and then, his education completed, became associated with F. W. Myers and Company, beginning as a clerk in 1880. F. W. Myers and Company was founded in 1860 by John Myers, who came from Burlington, Vermont, to Rouses Point in 1845, one of the pio- neer business men of the community. For fifteen years John Myers was an agent for the Champlain and St. Lawrence Railroad, a position which he resigned when he established his own business. Today the organization is the largest enterprise of its kind in this section, having five different offices located at Malone, Fort Covington, Rooseveltown, and Port Huron, Michigan, in addition to headquarters at Rouses Point. The firm, which employs twenty persons, is headed by Mr. Myers as president ; William R. Casey, vice-pres- ident and treasurer ; Elmer A. May, vice-president at Port Huron; R. E. Casey, secretary ; and F. T. Tinker, assistant treasurer.
In addition to this enterprise, John R. Myers is also interested in rail- roads, being a director of the Champlain and St. Lawrence road, a director of the United States and Canada Railroad Company, and having built in 1906, in association with Walter C. A member of the Republican party, John R. Myers has always been gen- erous with his time and ability in public matters, having served two terms as mayor of Rouses Point, being supervisor for a term, being president of the Rouses Point School Board for a term, being a member of the Board of Visitors of the Plattsburg State Normal School and being chairman of the Republican Committee for Clinton County, as well as being the district dele- gate to the Republican National Convention the year that Theodore Roosevelt was nominated President. During the World War, Mr. Myers was Clinton County Food Administrator and served as chairman for various drives in Rouses Point, including the Liberty Loan campaigns. A member of Platts- burg Lodge, No. 621, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Mr. Myers belongs to the Plattsburg Rotary Club and is a member of St. James's Club of Montreal and the Rideau Club of Ottawa, as well as serving the Rouses Point Episcopal Church as senior warden.
John R. Myers married, in 1886, Anna Hinman Humphrey, who is a native of Weedsport, New York.
WILLIAM ROSSITER CASEY, vice-president and treasurer of F. W. Myers and Company, was born at Rouses Point, January 8, 1893, son of Robert Emmett and Annie' Beatrice (Myers) Casey. Robert Emmett Casey, who was a publisher. was formerly Deputy Collector of Customs in charge of the Rouses Point district.

After attending the Rouses Point public schools, including a year of high school, William R. Casey spent three years at Phillips Academy, Andover, Massachusetts, graduating in 1911, and then, after a year at Rennselaer Poly- technic Institute, Troy, New York, entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, graduating in 1916. Mr. Casey was in the service at the time the United States entered the World War and he served in the destroyer force operating out of Queenstown, Ireland, and Brest, France, con- tinuing as an officer until he resigned in 1923. In June of 1923, Mr. Casey became a partner in the firm of F. W. Myers and Company and, when the firm was incorporated in 1925, was elected a director as secretary and treas- urer, becoming vice-president and treasurer in 1938.
Holding rank as a lieutenant-commander, United States Naval Reserve, and serving as a director of the Champlain Valley Hospital of Plattsburg, Mr. Casey is also a director of the Champlain and St. Lawrence Railroad, a subsidiary of the Canadian National Railways. Treasurer of the Rouses Point Board of Education for five years, from 1925 to 1930, Mr. Casey while deeply interested in civic and political matters, has not sought public office but supports his community through service on various organizations' com- mittees. A member and Past Grand Knight of Rouses Point Council, Knights of Columbus, Mr. Casey is a Past Commander of the Rouses Point Post of the American Legion, and belongs to the United States Naval Institute of Annapolis and the United States Navy Athletic Association of Annapolis, as well as the North County Golf Club of Rouses Point, being secretary and treasurer of the latter organization. Mr. Casey is a trustee of St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
William Rossiter Casey married, February 12, 1920, at New York City, Clare Nichols Gordon, daughter of Charles Alexander and Ellen (Barry) Gordon. Mr. and Mrs. Casey are the parents of two children: I. William Rossiter, Jr., born June 15, 1922. 2. Shelie, born June 15, 1922.
WALTER A. SHAW-As co-founder and president of the Glen Supply Company, Inc., dealers in automobile replacement parts, accessories and equipment, Walter A. Shaw guides an enterprise whose development has featured the recent business history of Glens Falls. He has been active in the field for some fourteen years and has headed his present company since 1931.
Mr. Shaw was born in Greenwich, Washington County, New York, son of Alexander and Elizabeth (Tucker) Shaw. His father, who was born in Argyle, was a farmer in Washington County until his death. His mother, also deceased, was born in North Greenwich.
Walter A. Shaw received his preliminary education in the public schools of Greenwich, completing the high school course, and subsequently spent two

years at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He came to Glens Falls in 1914 as manager of the Alling Rubber Company store and continued in that connection for the next ten years, gaining useful experience in general business methods. In 1924, recognizing the possibilities opened up by the rapid development of the automobile as the chief method of local transportation, he established an automobile accessory shop, continuing in the same business independently until 1931. In the latter year the Glen Supply Company, Inc., was organized, with Mr. Shaw, L. A. Lapointe and H. A. Glassbrook as co-founders. The business was carried on at first in a small store on Lower Maple Street, but it grew so rapidly that by 1935 it was necessary to find larger quarters. Head- quarters of the company were accordingly moved to the present location at Nos. 52-54 Park Street. The Glen Supply Company is today one of the largest enterprises of its kind in the Adirondack section, stocking replace- ments, accessories and equipment for all makes of automobiles. A sales force of seven people is employed. Mr. Shaw, as president of the company, has directed its operations and expansion, having as associates the other founders of the company : Mr. Lapointe, who serves as treasurer, and Mr. Glassbrook, who is vice-president and secretary of the company.
Mr. Shaw is fond of outdoor life and turns for relaxation from his busi- ness duties to hunting and fishing. He is a member of the Kattskill Bay Yacht Club and a member of the Methodist Church.
In 1914 Mr. Shaw married Lillian Goldie, who was born in Albany, and they are the parents of one daughter, Kathryn.
HOWARD A. GLASSBROOK-Judge of the City Court of Glens Falls, Howard A. Glassbrook is not only one of the leading attorneys of his home city but is also an active business man and a prominent member of the Republican party.
Howard A. Glassbrook was born in Glens Falls, November 26, 1887, son of John and Martha Jane (Smith) Glassbrook. John Glassbrook, who was descended from the original settlers of Stony Creek, was born in Stony Creek and spent his life in the operation of a livery business and in operating a stage coach line, as well as in carrying the United States mail. Martha Jane (Smith) Glassbrook, who was also born in Stony Creek, was directly descended from the pioneer Van Dusen family.
After completing his early education in the grade schools and the high school of Luzerne, Howard A. Glassbrook attended Wesleyan Academy, graduating in 1908. Then, selecting the law for his profession, he entered the Albany Law School, receiving his degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1910. Falls, where he has maintained a practice through the present time, being a member of the Warren County Bar Association, and president in 1938.
Always concerned with civic problems, Howard A. Glassbrook took an active part in the life of Glens Falls as a member of the Republican party after he began to practice his profession and, in 1920, he was elected judge of the City Court of Glens Falls, an office which he has occupied through the present time. During the World War, Judge Glassbrook served as a member of the local legal advisory committee. In addition to the duties and responsibilities of his profession and office, he is also the president of the Glassbrook Store Company of Stony Creek and is the vice-president and secretary of the Glens Falls Supply Company. A member of the New York State Historical Society and of Gamma Eta Gamma Fraternity, Judge Glassbrook belongs to Glens Falls Lodge, No. 121, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, being Past Master of the lodge and District Deputy for the Saratoga and Warren counties district. The judge is also a member of Glens Falls Lodge, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Sagamore Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows and the Loyal Order of Moose, of which last organization he is Past Dictator. A member of the Glens Falls Methodist Church, Judge Glassbrook is steward of the institution. He finds his recreation in fishing.
Howard A. Glassbrook married, in 1913, Leda A. Perkins, a native of Corinth, New York. Mr. and Mrs. Glassbrook are the parents of a daughter, Jane Louise.
LINDLEY STURGES SQUIRES-A native of Vermont, who has accomplished much in the profession of law, Lindley Sturges Squires has distinguished himself in Rutland by his work from the legal side toward the establishment of good roads and highways. He has constantly been an encouraging influence in the cause of conservation and development of natural resources in Vermont and the whole Lake Champlain district.
Mr. Squires was born April 22, 1890, in Rutland, Vermont, son of Frank D. and Jennie A. (Preston) Squires. The Squires family came originally to America from England. Lindley S. Squires' paternal grandfather was a private in the United States Army in the War of 1812, and other members of the family were prominent in different branches of American life and affairs in the different generations.
The public schools of Rutland, his birthplace, provided Lindley S. Squires' early education, and in 1910 he was graduated from Rutland High School. He then entered Middlebury College, at Middlebury, Vermont, where he con- tinued his studies from 1910 to 1912. Between 1914 and 1917 he studied law under the direction of Charles L. Howe, of Rutland, and on October 4,

1917, he was admitted to the bar of the State of Vermont. With an extensive practice in Federal courts he has devoted most of his attention since that time to trial work.
In respect to Mr. Squires' public activities, he has rendered. invaluable service to his fellow-citizens in this region, particularly seeking to advertise Vermont throughout the United States. Regarding the State's scenic beauty as one of her greatest assets, he has sought to make it a popular national play- ground during the summer months. His work on behalf of the good roads movement is well known.
In 1922 and 1923 Mr. Squires served as city prosecutor of Rutland, per- forming his duties with distinction in that elective office. In 1917 he was door- keeper in the Senate of the Vermont State Legislature. During the World War period he was traveling secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association, with headquarters at Camp Devens, Ayer, Massachusetts. Fraternally he is connected with the Center Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons, in Rut- land, and with Rutland Lodge of the Knights of Pythias. He worships in the Baptist faith.
Lindley Sturges Squires married, on June 24, 1920, at Rutland, Vermont, Harriet S. Ward, of Poultney, Vermont, daughter of Arthur B. and Harriet [Hattie] (Frisbie) Ward. Mr. and Mrs. Squires became the parents of three children : I. Shirley Jane, born September 8, 1921. 2. Harriet Louise, born December 26, 1922. 3. Lindley Sturges, Jr., born October 10, 1932.
MISS MARION LLEWELLA WARD-Marion Llewella Ward, an active member of the Poultney legal fraternity, and a descendant of one of this community's oldest families, the daughter of the late Arthur B. and the late Harriet [Hattie] (Frisbie) Ward. Arthur B. Ward, born here in 1858, was engaged as a farmer and school teacher for many years, but is now retired. Harriet (Frisbie) Ward, born at Brownville, New York, October 2, 1861, died July 4, 1929. The Ward family is still residing on the same farm origi- nally settled by their ancestors before the Revolutionary War, they being the first settlers in what is now the town of Poultney. The present farmhouse was at one time the Courthouse of the Fair Haven Probate District, and Wil- liam Ward, great-grandfather of Miss Ward, served as probate judge for twenty-two years. Artemus Ward, uncle of William Ward, was the first Commander-in-Chief of the Revolutionary armies prior to George Wash- ington taking over command, and his home at Sudbury, Massachusetts, now owned by Harvard University, is being maintained as a museum.
After completing her early education in the local public schools, Miss Ward entered Troy Conference Academy, where she was a member of the class of 1922. She later was graduated from the Rutland Business College,

and after completing her course, she entered the law offices of Lindley S. Squires, of Rutland, Vermont, to prepare for a legal career. She became a member of the Vermont bar October 8, 1937, and has since that time been associated with Mr. Squires in the general practice of law at Rutland.
Miss Ward is an active member of the First Baptist Church. She is active in the Republican party, being a member of the State committee from Rutland County, and is vice-president of Rutland City Young Republican Club. She is a member of the County, State and National Bar associations.
KENNETH S. ELLSWORTH-City clerk of Glens Falls, Kenneth S. Ellsworth is both an active member of the Republican City Committee of Glens Falls and widely known throughout the city as a former business man.
Kenneth S. Ellsworth was born in Queensbury August II, 1903, son of Wyatt and Ella C. (Hammond) Ellsworth. Wyatt Ellsworth, who is a native of Queensbury, is a farmer. Ella C. (Hammond) Ellsworth, who is deceased, was born in Caldwell.
After passing through the grade schools and the high school of Glens Falls, Kenneth S. Ellsworth attended Albany Law School and then found his first employment as a clerk in the Glens Falls National Bank. After two years in the bank, he went with the International Paper Company at Fort Edward for two years and then became assistant manager of the Singer Sewing Ma- chine Company's Glens Falls office. Following this association, he worked for the John Hancock Life Insurance Company for a short time and then spent six years in the drug business. Finally, after a short employment as a salesman for the Finch, Pruyn and Company, Mr. Ellsworth was appointed city clerk of Glens Falls in 1935, a position which he has occupied through the present time. Always interested in civic problems, he has been active for years in the local organization of the Republican party, being at present a member of the Republican City Committee. A member of Glens Falls Lodge, No. 81, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Mr. Ellsworth also belongs to Glens Falls Council, No. 194, Knights of Columbus, and is a member of St. Mary's Church. He finds his recreation in hunting and fishing.

HUBERT C. BROWN-Proprietor of the Cool Insurance Agency, the largest independent agency in Glens Falls, Hubert C. Brown is not only one of the city's leading insurance men but also active as a banker and execu- tive of several of the city's charitable and social service organizations.

Hubert C. Brown was born in Glens Falls, August 30, 1902, son of W. A. and Beth C. (Cunningham) Brown. W. A. Brown, a native of Palmer, spent his life in the lumber business. Beth C. (Cunningham) Brown is a native of Chestertown.
After passing through Glens Falls Academy, Hubert C. Brown entered Williams College and, a member of the class of 1925, graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. Returning home from college, Mr. Brown found employment with the Glens Falls Insurance Company, in which organization he remained until 1932 when he purchased the Cool Insurance Agency. This agency, of which Mr. Brown is the proprietor, is the largest independent office in Glens Falls and writes all forms of insurance with the exception of life, representing more than twenty different companies, both stock and mutual. In addition to his insurance activities, Mr. Brown is a director of the First National Bank of Glens Falls, a director of the Glens Falls Insurance Company, and president of the Kendrick and Brown Company. Always interested in civic, philanthropic and social service problems, Mr. Brown gives freely of his time and energy to various social enterprises, being a direc- tor of the Glens Falls Hospital, a director and secretary of the Glens Falls Community Chest, and a director of the Glens Falls Young Men's Christian Association. In addition, he is a member of the Lake George Association, Glens Falls Rotary Club, Glens Falls Chamber of Commerce and Zeta Psi Fraternity and belongs to Glens Falls Lodge, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Hubert C. Brown married in 1930, Caroline Leavens, a native of Glens Falls. Mr. and Mrs. Brown are the parents of two children : I. Andrew L. 2. Philip C.
ALBERT E. BESWICK-One of the leading attorneys of the Lake George district, Albert E. Beswick, who maintains his practice in Glens Falls, counts the First National Bank of Lake George among his clients.
Albert E. Beswick was born in Bolton, October 16, 1904, son of Leonard and Louise (Lanfair) Beswick. Leonard Beswick, who was a native of Bolton, spent his life as a contracting mason and builder. Louise (Lanfair) Beswick, also deceased, was born in Bolton, too.
After passing through the grade schools and the high school of Bolton, and graduating from Clark University, Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1925, with the degree of Bachelor of Arts, Albert E. Beswick selected the law for his profession and, entering the law school of Yale University, graduated in 1928 with the degree of Bachelor of Laws. Admitted to the New York State bar the same year, he established his office in Glens Falls, where he has maintained

his practice through the present time. Mr. Beswick supports his profession by membership in the Warren County Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association. Interested in civic concerns, he endorses the policies of the Republican party. He is Past Master of Warrensburg Lodge, No. 425, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, belongs to Warrensburg Chapter, No. 325, Royal Arch Masons, and is a member of Glens Falls Lodge, No. 325, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and Theta Kappa Nu and Phi Delta Theta fraternities. Mr. Beswick attends the Glens Falls Presbyterian Church. He finds recreation in his hobbies of hunting and fishing.
Albert E. Beswick married, in 1930, Mary Reoux, a native of Warrens- burg and daughter of Louis E. and Adelia H. (Thomas) Reoux. Mr. and Mrs. Beswick are the parents of two chidren : Albert L. and Thomas E.
MICHAEL C. LINEHAN-An outstanding insurance man of the Lake George district, Michael C. Linehan of Glens Falls has been active in the field for twenty years, spending the past fifteen years as proprietor of his own agency, which is one of the largest in Glens Falls.
Michael C. Linehan was born in Glens Falls, January II, 1888, son of Cornelius and Helen (Buckley) Linehan. Cornelius Linehan, who was a native of Ireland, spent his life in America in the quarry business. Helen (Buckley) Linehan, his wife, also deceased, was born in Glens Falls.
After completing his education in St. Mary's Parochial School, Glens Falls, Michael C. Linehan found his first employment as a shirt ironer in the York Shirt Factory, while working during the summer months in various summer hotels in the recreation area of Northern New York State. Then, in 1917, when the World War broke out, Mr. Linehan enlisted in the United States Army Aviation Corps and, after training, was sent to France with the 169th Aero Squadron, American Expeditionary Forces. With this outfit, he saw seventeen months of service, taking part in such campaigns as the Meuse, the Argonne Forest and the St. Mihiel and then after service in a defensive sector, he was given his honorable discharge on May 19, 1919, with the rank of sergeant. Returning home to Glens Falls, Michael C. Linehan became associated with the Glens Falls' Agency of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as agent and, in 1920, he was made assistant manager, a post which he occupied until 1923 when he resigned to enter the general insurance field in business for himself. His agency, which was established that year, has beer. maintained through the present time under his sole proprietorship and repre- sents nine major companies. In addition to his insurance interests, he is a director of the Glens Falls Saving and Loan Association and a director of the Glens Falls Hospital. A trustee of Glens Falls Council, No. 194, Knights of Columbus and a member of the Glens Falls Kiwanis Club, Mr. Linehan is

J. EDWARD SINGLETON-Since 1899, J. Edward Singleton has been engaged in the practice of law at Glens Falls, rising to a position of recognized leadership at the Warren County bar. He is also active in business life, heading several important local companies, and has served his city in positions of public honor and responsibility.
Mr. Singleton was born in Glens Falls on November I, 1876, a son of James and Elizabeth (McCarthy) Singleton, both born in County Cork, Ireland, and both now deceased. His father was engaged in the coal business until his death.
J. Edward Singleton was educated at St. Mary's Academy, in Glens Falls, and prepared for his profession at Buffalo Law School, from which he was graduated with the degree of Bachelor of Laws in 1898. He was president of his class in law school and otherwise prominent in the activities of the insti- tution. In 1899 he was admitted to the New York bar and entered practice at Glens Falls. Mr. Singleton quickly established his professional reputation and built up the substantial practice whose responsibilities have since occu- pied him. Early in his career he served for nine years as police justice of the village and subsequently was city judge for one year. For ten years he also served as city attorney of Glens Falls. He is past president of the War- ren County Bar Association, a distinction reflecting his standing in his pro- fession, a member of the American Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York.
Mr. Singleton's business interests, which share his time and effort with the law, center in the Glens Falls Portland Cement Company and the Glens Falls Post Company. He is president of both corporations and has directed their operations with characteristic soundness and efficiency. He is also a director of the Imperial Paper and Color Company and the Glens Falls National Bank and Trust Company, in whose councils of management he is prominent. He has been active in behalf of many civic enterprises during his long residence at Glens Falls and has made his influence effective in promoting the progress of the community. At the time of the World War he undertook many local responsibilities in his country's cause, acting with others to take the census of those eligible for military duty, serving as a member of the Legal Advisory Board, as a "four-minute speaker" to rally public support for the war, and as
