After completing his preparatory education at Winooski High School in 1921, Dr. Villemaire enrolled at the University of Vermont, where he received his degree of Doctor of Medicine as a member of th class of 1929. During the following year he served his interneship at the Waterbury Hospital in Waterbury, Connecticut, and in 1931 he came to Milton, Vermont, to launch his private practice as a physician and surgeon, in which work he has been most successful. At the present time he is a member of the staffs of both Fanny Allen Hospital at Burlington, and the St. Albans Hospital at St. Albans, Vermont. He is also a member of the Reserve Officers Training Corps.
Dr. Villemaire is a communicant of St. Ann's Roman Catholic Church, a supporter of the Democratic party, and an affiliate of the Chittenden County, Vermont State and American Medical associations, and the Phi Chi Frater- nity.

WALTER R. HILDRETH -- President of the Northern Insuring Agency, Incorporated, of Au Sable Forks, Plattsburg and Glens Falls, Walter R. Hildreth is not only one of the oustanding insurance men of northern New York State but also a leading credit man, being vice-president also of the Au Sable Credit Corporation, an organization which, with offices in Glens Falls and in Plattsburg as well as in Au Sable Forks, is one of the most active enterprises of its kind in the Adirondack region.
Walter R. Hildreth was born at Ticonderoga, Essex County, April 20, 1890, son of Robert T. and Minnie (Duntley) Hildreth. Robert T. Hildreth, who was a native of Crown Point, established himself in life as a laborer, an occupation which he followed for many years. Minnie (Duntley) Hildreth, his wife, is a native of North Hudson.
After passing through the grade schools of Ticonderoga and attending the Ticonderoga High School, Walter R. Hildreth attended the Albany Business College, from which institution he went to New York City, where he found employment in the New York office of the International Paper Company. Working for this corporation in New York City and at Piercefield, New York, for some five years, Mr. Hildreth resigned to go with the Racquet Paper Company, with whom he was associated for two years, leaving to spend three years in Au Sable Forks with the J. and J. Rogers Company. This employment was followed by three years with the Whiting-Patterson Com- pany, paper jobbers of New York City, a firm which Mr. Hildreth joined as manager of the coarse paper division. Following this employment, Mr. Hil- dreth left the paper business to enter the insurance field, establishing himself in 1922 at Plattsburg as an agent for the Connecticut General Life Insurance Company of Hartford, Connecticut. In 1925, Mr. Hildreth removed to Au Sable Forks and established himself as a general insurance broker under the name of W. R. Hildreth, General Insurance, maintaining his enterprise until 1930, when he incorporated the business under the name of the Northern Insuring Agency, Incorporated, an organization of which he was elected pres- ident. In addition to developing the corporation until it covers most of north- eastern New York State, Mr. Hildreth in 1928 organized the Au Sable Credit Corporation and was elected vice-president of this enterprise also, remaining in office through the present time and enlarging the corporation's activities until they cover the territory between Glens Falls and the Canadian border.
During the World War, Mr. Hildreth served as chief clerk of Exemption Board, No. 2, of Clinton County. Supporting his community by membership

in the Au Sable Forks Rotary Club, Mr. Hildreth, who attends the First Methodist Church of Au Sable Forks and finds recreation from his business responsibilities by indulgence in his favorite sports of hunting and fishing, is a member of Tahawus Lodge, No. 790, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, and Plattsburg Lodge, No. 621, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.
Walter R. Hildreth married in 1913, Nona Grey, who was born in Ticon- deroga, New York. Mr. and Mrs. Hildreth are the parents of a son, Marvin Grey.
JOHN J. WILLIS-Coming to St. Albans, Vermont, in 1906, John J. Willis entered the real estate and insurance business nineteen years later, and he has been successfully engaged in this field to the present day. He was born in New York City, February 24, 1902, the son of William and Katherine (Greenway) Willis. The elder Mr. Willis, a native of Kent, England, came to New York City when a young man and was in the private service as family coachman of several prominent families until 1906, when he and his family came to Vermont and for many years he served as coachman for former Gov- ernor E. C. Smith at St. Albans. His wife was born at Richmond-Surrey, England.
John J. Willis was brought to St. Albans, Vermont, when a boy, by his parents, and he was educated in the local public schools. In 1925 he became associated with the S. S. Watson Company in the real estate and insurance field, serving several years as a solicitor. In January, 1935, he acquired an interest in the business and one year later, upon the death of Mr. Watson, he formed a partnership with Mary Louise Milo, long an associate of this con- cern, and the business has been conducted since that time by Mr. Willis and Miss Milo.
Mr. Willis is an active member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, now serv- ing as junior warden, and he is Past High Priest of Champlain Chapter, No. I, Free and Accepted Masons. He is also president of the St. Albans Owl Club and past president of the Green Mountain Club, Incorporated, of Vermont. His chief hobbies are hunting, fishing and hiking.
He was married June 15, 1929, to Hester E. Hamilton of Madawaska, Ontario, Canada, and they are the parents of a daughter, Kathryn E. Willis.
AYMER S. C. HILL, M. D .- For the past thirty-seven years Dr. Aymer S .C. Hill has been engaged in the general practice of medicine at Winooski, Vermont, and during his many years of service to the people of this locality he has established himself as a most efficient member of the medical profession.
Dr. Hill was born at Johnson, Vermont, December 24, 1876, the son of

Seth C. and Mary J. (Peck) Hill, both deceased. Seth C. Hill, a native of Enosburg, Vermont, was engaged for many years in the farming industry. During the Civil War he served for four years as orderly sergeant with Com- pany A, 8th Vermont Infantry. Mary J. (Peck) Hill was born at Elmore, Vermont.
Dr. Hill received his elementary education in the Johnson district schools and attended People's Academy at Morrisville, Vermont, and then entered Normal School, from which he was graduated in 1895. He afterwards enrolled at the University of Vermont Medical School, where he received his Doctor of Medicine degree as a member of the class of 1898. For the next four years he practiced his profession at Jericho Center, and then in 1902 he came to Winooski, where he has been successfully engaged to the present day. He is well known in the medical field and at present is a member of the staff of Fanny Allen, Mary Fletcher and De Goesbriand hospitals.
Dr. Hill is a member of the First Congregational Church, an active Repub- lican, and a leader in civic life. During the World War he served as food administrator for both Winooski and Colchester. He is a member of the Chittenden and Burlington Clinic Society, and also a member of the County and State Medical associations. His chief hobbies are hunting and fishing, and the collecting of stamps and coins.
He was married (first) in 1899 to Adelaide Morgan, and they became the parents of a son : Dr. Aymer Hill, a graduate of the University of Vermont in 1926 with his Doctor of Medicine degree, interned at the Boston City and the Boston Children's Hospital, and is now engaged in the general practice of medicine at Grand Rapids, Michigan. Adelaide (Morgan) Hill died in 1930. In 1933 Dr. Aymer S. C. Hill married (second) Irene M. Morin, R. N., of Graniteville, Vermont.
COLVIN V. B. HARRINGTON-Active in the banking field for many years, Colvin V. B. Harrington has, since 1919, served as manager of the Winooski branch of the Burlington Trust Company He was born in Burlington, September 14, 1899, the son of the late Charles H. and Ellen (Miller) Harrington. Charles H. Harrington, a native of South Burlington, served as superintendent of the Burlington Poor Farm for more than thirty years prior to his retirement. He died in 1938. Ellen (Miller) Harrington is a native of Canada.
Colvin V. B. Harrington secured his early education in the Burlington public schools, and was later graduated from Edmunds High School. He then entered the employ of the Champlain Trust Company in Winooski as a clerk, and in 1919 was advanced to the position of manager, in which capacity he has served to the present day. In 1929 this institution was absorbed by the

Burlington Trust Company, and since that time has been a branch of that leading Vermont banking establishment, and Mr. Harrington, due to his many years association with this bank, is considered a most valuable asset to its official personnel. Outside of his business activities, Mr. Harrington is a great lover of outdoor life, and he is also known as a pigeon fancier, owning some White King birds of which he is most proud.
He is active in Republican politics, being chairman of the Second War Committee and in the Masonic Order he is Past Master of Burlington Lodge, No. 100, Free and Accepted Masons. He also holds membership in the Chit- tenden County Fish and Game Club.
He was married at Burlington, October 22, 1925, to Florence Nickols, of Essex Junction, and they are the parents of two children: I. David N. 2. Darwin M.
FRED A. TORRANCE-For the past twenty-nine years, Fred A. Torrance has been engaged in the general practice of law at Au Sable Forks, and he has long been a prominent figure in the official life of Essex County, serving as county supervisor from 1914 until 1939, when he was elected treas- urer of Essex County for a three-year term. He was born in Upper Jay, New York, January II, 1878, the son of Ira A. and Lucy E. (Smith) Tor- rance, both natives of Jay, and both deceased. Ira A. Torrance was engaged in the farming industry for many years prior to his death.
Fred A. Torrance acquired his elementary and preparatory education in the public schools at Au Sable Forks, and afterwards enrolled at Colgate Uni- versity, where he was a member of the class of 1905. He then prepared for his legal career at Albany Law School, and was graduated in 1908 with Bach- elor of Laws degree. He became a member of the New York bar in 1909, and immediately established his offices at Au Sable Forks, where he has ever since enjoyed a most successful career. During his many years as a prac- ticing attorney he has catered to an extensive clientele, and his long estab- lished legal ability is a matter of public knowledge. He has been identified with Essex County politics since 1910, at which time he was appointed justice of the peace, serving in this capacity until 1914. He then was elected county supervisor and resigned on January 1, 1939, when elected treasurer of Essex County.
He is a member of the Baptist Church, and an ardent Republican, serving as county committeeman for the past twenty-four years, and serving as a delegate to several State conventions of his party. He is a prominent Mason, being Past Master of Tahawus Lodge, No. 790, Free and Accepted Masons, a member of the York Rite and Oriental Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He is also a member of Whiteface Grange.

In 1906 he was united in marriage with Kathryn H. Bissell, a native of Jay, and they became the parents of three children : 1. Robert A., a graduate of Bryant and Stratton Business College. 2. Isabelle Lucy, a graduate in 1932 of Syracuse University with Bachelor of Arts degree. 3. Ira S., a former stu- dent at Troy Conference Academy. Kathryn H. (Bissell) Torrance is now deceased.
AXEL S. PETERSON-After serving in the editorial department of the "Daily News" in Burlington, Axel S. Peterson established an advertis- ing business here in partnership with his former editor, L. F. Dow. In a little more than a decade they have developed this venture into one of the most respected and successful of its type in the State and list among their accounts a number of large commercial, industrial and business firms. As a resident of this city Mr. Peterson has also taken a keen and active interest in civic and social affairs and has contributed substantially to the general welfare of the community through his public-spirited and well-directed efforts.
Mr. Peterson was born in Proctor, Vermont, November 5, 1898, the son of August and Anna (Anderson) Peterson, both natives of Sweden. His father, who came to this country in 1888, settled in Proctor and always worked with the Vermont Marble Company. After a general education in the public schools of his native community, young Peterson matriculated at the Univer- sity of Vermont, from which he was graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in the class of 1923. During his university days he was a prominent figure on the campus, taking part in many extra curricular activities which included the editorship of the college paper. Directly after receiving his degree he began his career with the "Daily News" of Burlington, which was under the editorship of L. F. Dow. Four years later he and Mr. Dow determined to enter the advertising business and founded the present firm, which they have conducted since with distinction and success.
In conjunction with his business prominence Mr. Peterson is also a popular figure in community affairs. A Republican in politics he is chairman of the First Ward Committee of that organization in Burlington and is regarded as an influential leader in the local party. He is a member of the Ethan Allen Club, the Yacht Club, the Chittenden County Fish and Game Club and frater- nizes with the Blue Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons in this city. Through his military service with the Student Army Training Corps, at Nor- wich, during the World War, he also is identified with the local post of the American Legion. Throughout his life Mr. Peterson has been an ardent sportsman and today finds his principal recreations and hobbies in hunting and fishing.
In 1926, Axel S. Peterson married Dr. Eloise Bailey, a native of Barre and descendant of the second family to settle in the State of Vermont, accord-

ing to family records. Mrs. Peterson was graduated from the medical depart- ment of the University of Vermont with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 1926. Mr. and Mrs. Peterson are the parents of two children: Thalia and Bailey.
WILLIAM JOSEPH REARDON, D. D. S .- Dr. William Joseph Reardon, a well-known Rutland dentist, and an active civic leader, was born here February 8, 1906, the son of Timothy Aloysius and Mary (Cahill) Reardon. The elder Mr. Reardon, also a native of Rutland, is engaged in the machinist trade. Mary (Cahill) Reardon is a native of Dorset, Vermont.
Dr. Reardon acquired his early education in the Rutland parochial schools, and after completing his high school studies, he enrolled at Villanova College, where he was a member of the class of 1928. He then entered Tufts Dental College in Boston, Massachusetts, where he was graduated in 1931 with the Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree. He inaugurated his professional career as a dentist at Rutland in August, 1931, and he has built up an extensive clientele, being well known for the excellent caliber of his work, and maintain- ing offices equipped with the most modern appliances known to dental science.
Dr. Reardon is a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church, and a staunch supporter of the Democratic party, serving at present as a member of the local School Board. Fraternally he is affiliated with the Knights of Columbus, and in 1937 he served as president of the Lions Club. He also holds membership in the Vermont State and the New England Dental soci- eties. His chief recreational divertisements are hunting, fishing, bowling and skiing.
He was married October 15, 1934, to Harriett Frances Beane of Rutland, daughter of Asa and Frances (Martin) Beane. Dr. and Mrs. Reardon are the parents of two sons: I. William Joseph, Jr., born February 21, 1937. 2. Timothy Aloysius, born February II, 1938.
WALTER A. CLARK-With a record of more than half a century of experience in the general insurance field, Walter A. Clark has established himself as one of the oldest and most successful in his field in Rutland and vicinity.
Mr. Clark was born at East Poultney, Vermont, December 5, 1859, the son of Albert Backus and Jane M. (Clift) Clark, both deceased. Albert Backus Clark, also a native of East Poultney, was engaged in the farming industry at the time of his death in 1905, at the age of seventy-six years. He was the son of Warren Clark who, with his wife, came from Connecticut to East Poultney on horseback in 1805, and settling in this Vermont community, engaged in farming operations. Jane M. (Clift) Clark, born at Middletown Springs, Vermont, in 1834, died May 15, 1867.

Walter A. Clark received his elementary education in the country school in East Poultney, and later concluded his high school studies at the Rutland High School. He then worked on a farm here for a short time, and also taught school for one term, after which he entered the employ of the Howe Scale Company, where he remained from 1880 until 1885. He then launched his career in the insurance field, becoming associated with M. J. Francisco, and five years later he established his own business, in which he has continued steadily to the present day, conducting a general insurance business but spe- cializing in fire and liability insurance. He is also a director of the Killing- ton National Bank in Rutland, Vermont, and the Granite Mutual Insurance Company of Barre, Vermont.
Mr. Clark is a member of the Baptist Church with which he has been connected for more than sixty years, and politically, he is active in Repub- lican affairs, being elected constable and collector of taxes for the town of Rutland from 1887 until the city of Rutland was chartered in 1893, after which he served as alderman for a term of four years. He also has served for four years as a member of the School Commission. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, and fraternally is affiliated with Rutland Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, Killington Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Knights of Pythias.
He was married September 18, 1882, to Millie M. Wilson of Rutland, and they became the parents of four children : 1. Maude E., married Charles Spaulding of East Poultney. 2. Lena M., since deceased, married Nestelle K. Anderson. 3. Albert Clift, since deceased. 4. Ruth Elizabeth. Mr. Clark also had eight grandchildren: i. Norman C. Adams. ii. Dr. Harold W. Adams. iii. Lucille Adams, since deceased. iv. Shirley J. Adams, all children of Mrs. Maude E. Spaulding by a former marriage. v. Alice (Anderson) Rielle. vi. Clark N. Anderson. vii. Wilson C. Anderson. viii. Dorothy Anderson, since deceased. There are also four great-grandchildren : a. Clark Boyden Adams. b. Joan Elizabeth. c. Dorothy Lee. d. Robert Francis Rielle.
FRED HOMER REMINGTON-Fred Homer Remington, vice- president and general manager of the Rutland Concrete Pipe Company, Incor- porated, and a well-known figure in the contracting business in this city for more than twenty-eight years, was born at Horicon, on Brant Lake, New York, March 8, 1869, the son of Ziba J. and Mary (Ross) Remington, both deceased. Ziba J. Remington, a native of Hinesburg, Vermont, was engaged as a lumberman at the time of his death in 1918. Mary (Ross) Remington, a native of Bolton, New York, died in 1908.
Fred Homer Remington entered Moriah Academy after completing his high school studies, and he later took a course in mechanical engineering at a

correspondence school in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He followed the carpentry trade in Ticonderoga, New York, from 1900 to 1904, and then in the latter year, he came to Rutland, where he entered the contracting field, under his own name, continuing in this business until 1932, during which period he was one of the leading men in his line in this locality, employing approximately one hundred men, and erecting some of the finest buildings here, including the Tuttle Block, Paramount Theatre, Badlam Block, Herald Building, Mont- gomery Ward Building and the Cootie Garage. In 1932 he began the man- ufacturing of culvert and sewer pipe, and also concrete burial vaults, and he has continued in this field to the present day as vice-president and general manager of the Rutland Concrete Pipe Company, Incorporated.
Mr. Remington is a member of the Episcopal Church, and an affiliate of the Knights of Pythias, Lodge No. 345, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Ticonderoga Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, Burlington Consistory, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and Cairo Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine at Rutland.
Mr. Remington is married to Anna Hitman of Shoreham, Vermont, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Hitman. Mr. and Mrs. Remington became the parents of three children : 1. Wallace E., who departed this life at the age of thirty-six years. 2. Chester H., married Deana Richmond of Rutland, and they are the parents of four children: i. Theodore. ii. Elizabeth. iii. and iv. Anna and Wallace (twins). 3. Wendell N., now associated with his father's business as a salesman.
LOUIS P. ROBARE-One of the outstanding insurance men of Clinton and Essex counties, Louis P. Robare of Au Sable Forks is also active in New York City, where he is interested in real estate and insurance, having entered the field after several years spent as banker and investment counselor.
Louis P. Robare was born in Au Sable Forks, Clinton County, July 7, 1900, son of Albert J. and Orrila (Dennett) Robare. Albert J. Robare, who was a native of Au Sable Forks, established himself in life as a paper maker, a trade which he followed until the time of his death. Orrila (Dennett) Robare, his wife, also deceased, was born in Au Sable Forks, too.
After passing through the Au Sable Forks public schools and attending the Au Sable Forks High School, Louis P. Robare went to New York City where he studied at the American Institute of Banking, Pace Institute and Columbia University. Thus fitted for a career in banking, he found employment in the New York Trust Company, resigning after two years in the institution's credit department to enter the public accounting field, a profession which he followed for some six years in New York City and the adjacent territory. Following this activity, Mr. Robare became an investment counselor. a field in which he

was engaged in New York City for about ten years, resigning from his asso- ciations to establish himself in the real estate and insurance business in New York City, as the vice-president of H. B. Welsh, Inc. This agency, of recent years, has confined its city activities primarily to the development and manage- ment of its own properties. In 1937 another enterprise in the real estate and insurance field was established in Au Sable Forks under the name of The Robare Agency and with Louis P. Robare coming to Au Sable Forks to take over the active direction of the business. Always interested in community and political problems, Mr. Robare has become active in civic life since establish- ing himself in Au Sable Forks.
Supporting his profession by membership in the New York State Asso- ciation of Local Agents, the National Association of Local Agents, and the Adirondack Association of Local Agents, Mr. Robare, who is a member of the Rotary Club of Au Sable Forks, is also a member of the Seventh Regiment Veterans Association, having served three years in the 107th Infantry, New York National Guard, an organization which was formerly the 7th Regiment of the New York State Militia. A member of Au Sable Council, No. 2301, Knights of Columbus, an organization of which Mr. Robare is the Grand Knight, he attends the Church of the Holy Name of Au Sable Forks. Fond of motoring and golf, Mr. Robare finds an opportunity to indulge himself in the latter means of recreation from his business responsibilities through mem- bership in the Indole Golf Club.
