Mr. and Mrs. Peters have four daughters : I. Kathryn Ewing, the eldest, married Robert Imlay, of Cambridge, Massachusetts. 2. GEORGE K. WALKER-After more than twenty-five years of asso- ciation with various paper manufacturing plants in New England, George K. Walker came to Glens Falls in 1919, to enter the employ of Finch, Pruyn and Company, Inc., where he has to this day served most efficiently in the impor- tant capacity of manager in charge of all manufacturing activities. He was born in Fryeburg, Maine, November II, 1878, the son of Hazen B. and Carrie M. (Abbott) Walker, both natives of Fryeburg, Maine, and both deceased. For many years previous to his death, Hazen B. Walker was engaged in gen- eral farming operations.


After completing his public school education, George K. Walker, at the age of fifteen years, entered the employ of the Rumford Falls Paper Com- pany, continuing with this firm for approximately four years. This com- pany was absorbed then by the International Paper Company, and Mr. Walker remained in their employ for another year, after which he went to Fulton, New York, to become associated with the Oswego Falls Paper Company. The following year he went to Niagara Falls, New York, to the local plant of

the International Paper Company, and eighteen months later he transferred to the Great Northern Paper Company at Millinocket, Maine, where he remained for eight years. For the next one and one-half years he was con- nected with the Norwood Paper Company at Norwood, New York, and then he went to Deferiet, New York, to enter the employ of the St. Regis Paper Company, where he remained for two years. Then, after a year in the wall- paper business in England, he moved to Fitchdale, Vermont, where he was employed by the Fitchdale Paper Company. After eight years in this post he became associated with the DeGrasse Paper Company, continuing until 1919, when he became associated with his present employers, whom he has served most capably to the present day, being well qualified through his many years of experience to perform efficiently his duties as manufacturing manager. Mr. Walker also serves as a director of the Kendrick and Brown Company.


He is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and is well known in the Masonic Order, holding membership in Moose River Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, York and Scottish Rite and Mt. Sinai Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He is also active in civic affairs, being a member of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce and the Young Men's Christian Association. In addition he is a past chairman of the New York and Canadian division of the American Paper and Pulp Superintendents Association.


He was married, in 1923, to Ethel Kenduck, a native of Glens Falls.


GEORGE F. HOY-Throughout practically his entire business career, George F. Hoy has been identified with the Finch, Pruyn and Com- pany, Inc., of Glens Falls, where he has been employed for the past thirty- two years, and where he is now serving in the capacity of assistant treasurer. He was born in North Duxbury, Vermont, September 25, 1886, the son of Thomas H. and the late Agnes (Ryan) Hoy. Thomas H. Hoy was born in Quebec, Canada, and is at present retired. Agnes (Ryan) Hoy was a native of Richmond, Vermont.


George F. Hoy received his early education in the district school in North Duxbury, Vermont, and then entered the Waterbury, Vermont High School. He completed his education at the Albany Business College in 1904, and then entered the employ of the Casein Company of America, where he continued for about eight months. For the next six months he was engaged in con- struction work for the Delaware and Eastern Railroad, and then in August, 1906, he came to Glens Falls, where he secured a position as stenographer with the Finch, Pruyn and Company, Inc. He was later promoted to his pres- ent position as assistant treasurer in which post he has proven himself most

efficient in financial matters, and a highly regarded asset of this great cor- poration. Mr. Hoy also serves as treasurer of the Moreau Manufacturing Corporation.


He is a communicant of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church and is affili- ated with Glens Falls Lodge, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.


He was married, in 1916, to Margaret Smith, a native of South Glens Falls, and they are the parents of a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, a student at the College of New Rochelle at New Rochelle, New York, and a member of the class of 1940.


ELMER S. WHITE-Associated with Finch, Pruyn and Company, Inc., for the past twenty-three years, Elmer S. White is now cashier of this great Glens Falls industrial plant. He was born in South Glens Falls, Sara- toga County, November 26, 1896, the son of Charles E. and Alice E. (Miner) White, both deceased. Charles E. White a native of Moreau, New York, was engaged as a grain merchant at the time of his death. Alice E. (Miner) White was born in Fort Miller, Washington County, New York.


Upon completion of his grammar and high school education, Elmer S. White secured employment in 1915 with Finch, Pruyn and Company, his initial position being a clerk. He was later advanced to cashier of this company in which capacity he has continued to the present day.


He is a member of the Methodist Church, and is affiliated with Lodge No. 121, Free and Accepted Masons, at Glens Falls. He also serves as treasurer of the Glens Falls Country Club.


He was married in 1924 to Harriett C. Clothier, a native of Glens Falls.


GEORGE N. OSTRANDER-A well known and active member of the Albany and Glens Falls legal fraternity for the past thirty-nine years, George N. Ostrander, has also throughout this period, been associated with Finch, Pruyn and Company, Inc., where since 1933 he has served as vice- president and secretary. He was born in Troy, New York, July 1I, 1869, the son of George W. and Hortense J. (Lewis) Ostrander, both deceased. George W. Ostrander was born in Willow Glens, Saratoga County, and at the time of his death was engaged in the real estate field in this locality. His wife was a native of Troy.


George N. Ostrander graduated from the public and high schools in Albany, and then entered the Troy Conference Academy at Poultney, Ver- mont, after which he enrolled at the Clinton Liberal Institute at Fort Plain, New York. Afterwards he read law in the offices of Stedman, Thompson and Andrews, and T. Almern Griffin in Albany, and was admitted to the New York bar in 1899. He then established offices in Albany for the practice of

his profession, and has continued most successfully to the present day, spe- cializing in real estate work. He also, in 1899, became an attorney for Finch, Pruyn and Company, rendering valuable advice in all real estate mat- ters. In 1906 he became a director of this company, and also manager of Woodlands, in which capacity he is also still serving. He later became sec- retary of this company, and in 1933 assumed his present duties as vice- president and secretary. He is also a director and secretary of the Racquette Falls Land Company and director of the Empire State Forest Products Association.


Mr. Ostrander is a member of the Bethseda Episcopal Church, and is active in Republican political affairs, having served as delegate to several State conventions from both Albany and Saratoga counties, and is now serv- ing as chairman of the Republican County Committee of Saratoga County. He is a member of the Albany County, New York State and American Bar associations, and in the Masonic Order is affiliated with Guttemburg Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons and the Royal Arch Chapter of Masons. He is also vice-president of the Saratoga Golf Club, and a member of the Metro- politan Club of New York City.


He was married, in 1894, to Augusta Turner, a native of Albany, and they became the parents of a son, George N., Jr., a graduate of Williams College and the Columbia University Law School, now associated with his father in the practice of law in Albany. Mrs. Augusta (Turner) Ostrander died and Mr. Ostrander remarried, in 1907, Harriett E. Finch, a native of Northville, New York.


DANIEL P. DE LONG; ROBERT T. DE LONG-Two of the leading business men of Glen Falls, as well as being outstanding civic servants of the community, Daniel P. De Long and Robert T. De Long, head two thriving mercantile enterprises-the De Long Fuel Company and the Glens Falls Brick and Lumber Corporation-Daniel P. De Long being the president and general manager of the latter corporation, and Robert T. De Long being the secretary and treasurer.


Daniel P. De Long was born in Glens Falls, February 24, 1887, son of Daniel P. and Emily P. (Tearse) De Long. Daniel P. De Long, who was born in Day Centre, New York, spent his early years in the dry goods busi- ness, being a partner in the firm of Robbins and De Long, and then in 1888 purchased the Glens Falls Brick Company. Always interested in civic prob- lems, both in his own community and in his State, he devoted considerable amounts of time to public service, being at one time a member of the New York State Legislature. Emily P. (Tearse) De Long, his wife, who is a resident of Glens Falls, is a native of that city.

After passing through the public schools of Glens Falls and graduating from the Glens Falls Academy, Daniel P. De Long found his first employment in the Glens Falls Trust Company, working in that institution for three years when he joined his father in the operation of the Glens Falls Brick Company. This enterprise prospered and in 1920 the business was enlarged and incor- porated as the Glens Falls Brick and Lumber Corporation, with the younger Mr. De Long as president and general manager. In 1932 Mr. De Long added to his responsibilities a partnership in the De Long Fuel Company, again increasing his responsibilities in 1937 when he became the local contract agent for the American Oil Company. Expressing his concern in civic problems by membership in the Glens Falls Chamber of Commerce, being at one time president of the organization, Mr. De Long has been a director of the Glens Falls Trust Company and is treasurer of the Nassau Company and a director of the Glens Falls Realty Company. He attends the Glens Falls Presbyterian Church. Daniel P. De Long married, in 1923, Gwynnett Richards, who is a native of Buffalo.


Robert T. De Long was born in Glens Falls, January 9, 1881, son of Daniel P. and Emily P. (Tearse) De Long. After graduating from the Glens Falls High School, Robert T. De Long attended Albany Business College and then, for a year and a half, was engaged in construction work with the Hudson River Water Power Company. The subsequent six years, Mr. De Long spent with the Western Elevator Company, leaving that organization to return to Glens Falls and enter a partnership in the real estate business with William H. Rice, the firm being known as Rice and De Long. This association endured for four years, Mr. De Long leaving it to go down to New York City where he established himself as a real estate operator. In 1914 Mr. De Long re- turned home to Glens Falls, however, to take up a partnership with his brother in the Glens Falls Brick and Lumber Company, becoming the treasurer and secretary of the enterprise when it was incorporated in 1921. Finally, in 1921, Robert T. De Long joined his brother in partnership in the De Long Fuel Company-two associations which, for both brothers, have endured through the present time. During the Spanish-American War, Robert T. De Long joined the United States Army, serving in the 118th Company of the New York State Militia. Like the rest of his family, Mr. De Long has always been interested in civic problems and, at present, he is serving the city of Glens Falls as a member of the Board of Public Safety. Past President of the Masonic Club of Glens Falls, Mr. De Long is a member of Senate Lodge, No. 456, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Glens Falls, and many other bodies within the fraternity, including Oriental Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. He is an attendant of the Glens Falls Presby- terian Church.

JOHN J. O'NEILL-One of the leading funeral directors of Clinton County, John J. O'Neill, of Plattsburg, who maintains parlors both in Platts- burg and in Keeseville, is also well known for his civic spirit and for his fraternal activities.


John J. O'Neill was born at Harkness, Clinton County, March 20, 1884, son of John and Catherine (Downs) O'Neill. John O'Neill, who was a native of Harkness, established himself in his native community as a farmer and as a miner, two occupations in which he remained active until the time of his death. Catherine (Downs) O'Neill, his wife, also long a resident of Hark- ness, was born in New York City.


After passing through the public schools of Harkness and graduating from the high school at Au Sable Forks, John J. O'Neill studied at the Spencer Business College, at Kingston, New York, and then became associated with the Arnold Mining Company of Plattsburg and remained with the company for seven and a half years, leaving to spend another two and a half years with the Witherbee Sherman Company. Being interested in a career as a funeral direc- tor. he attended the Renouard School of Embalming in 1916. After completing his professional training that year, Mr. O'Neill established himself in the undertaking business in Keeseville, where he has maintained funeral services through the present time, adding to his enterprise in 1924 his present funeral parlors in Plattsburg.


Supporting his profession by membership in the National Funeral Direc- tors' Association, Mr. O'Neill is also a member of the North Star Funeral Directors' Association, an organization which he has served as president. Keenly devoted to the prosperity of his community, Mr. O'Neill has not only generously given his support to many civic enterprises but he has devoted himself to the work of the Plattsburg Chamber of Commerce and the Platts- burg Kiwanis Club. A member of St. John's Catholic Church, Mr. O'Neill belongs to the Plattsburg Council, No. 255. Knights of Columbus, being a fourth degree member of the fraternity, and is also a member of the Platts- burg Lodge, No. 621, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks.


John J. O'Neill married, in 1913, Mary McNalley, a native of Keeseville, New York. Mr. and Mrs. O'Neill are the parents of three daughters: I. Veronica Mary. 2. Katherine Elizabeth. 3. Helen Teresa.


CLARENCE A. SCRIVER-Assistant cashier of the First National Bank of Glens Falls, Clarence A. Scriver, one of the leading bankers of his community, having brought to his present responsibilities the wide experience gained in New York State and Pennsylvania banks, is also one of the out- standing citizens of the city of Glens Falls, taking an active part in various activities.

Clarence A. Scriver was born at Rouses Point, Clinton County, August 6, 1897, son of Albert H. and Mary L. (Odell) Scriver. Albert H. Scriver was a native of Canada and spent his life in the wholesale grocery business. Mary L. (Odell) Scriver, his wife, also was a Canadian.


After passing through the public schools of Clinton County and graduating from the Champlain High School, Clarence A. Scriver entered the University of Vermont, graduating with the class of 1921 and receiving the degree of Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. Returning home from college, Mr. Scriver found his first employment as a member of the staff of the First National Bank of Champlain where, during the subsequent ten years, he rose through various positions to become assistant cashier. Then, in 1931, he resigned from the Champlain bank to enter the field staff organization of the United States Treasury Department, being assigned to work in the banks of New York State and in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania until 1933 when he was called in from the field and assigned to the Washington office of the Comptroller of Currency and made a district supervisor of National Banks in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, and the District of Columbia. Then, in the autumn of 1935, Mr. Scriver resigned from his Federal position to accept a post as assistant cashier of the First National Bank of Glens Falls, an organization with which he has been associated through the present time. Like many other students of his generation, Mr. Scriver interrupted his university career dur- ing the World War by enlisting in the United States Army, a service in which he reached the rank of corporal in his infantry regiment.


Deeply interested in the welfare of Glens Falls, Mr. Scriver is a member of the Glens Falls Rotary Club and also belongs to the Glens Falls Country Club where he finds an opportunity to indulge in one of his favorite pastimes, golf, devoting a share of his leisure also to his other sports of hunting and fishing. A member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, he is a member and Past Master of Champlain Lodge, No. 237, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, as well as serving the First Presbyterian Church, of which he is a member, as trustee.


Clarence A. Scriver married, in 1923, Sybil Foote, who is a native of Burlington, Vermont. Mr. and Mrs. Scriver are the parents of a daughter, Sally.


HORACE J. WILLARD, sales manager of Finch, Pruyn and Com- pany, Inc., with which he has been connected for the past two decades, is a native of Glens Falls, having been born here May 2, 1890, the son of George A. and the late Ella Jennie (Potter) Willard. George A. Willard, a native of West Sand Lake, has followed the carpenter's trade for many years. Ella Jennie (Potter) Willard was born in Johnsburg, New York.

After attending Glens Falls High School, Horace J. Willard entered the employ of the McMullen and Leavens Company, where he remained for three years. He then became identified with the Peyser Shirt Company, and two years later transferred to the Fowler Shirt Company, continuing with this company for three years. For the next four years he followed the carpenter's tra ie, and then he became associated with the Kendrick and Brown Company at Glens Falls and continued there until 1918, when he became a traveling salesman for Finch, Pruyn and Company, Inc., later being promoted to his present post as sales manager.


He is a member of the board of trustees of the First Baptist Church, and is actively identified with the Republican party, being formerly secretary of both the Glens Falls and Warren County Republican committees, and on several occasions a delegate to the State conventions and a member of the Recreation Commission, City of Glens Falls. He is affiliated with Glens Falls Lodge, No. 121, Free and Accepted Masons at Glens Falls, York Rite, and Oriental Temple, Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, also the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and the Loyal Order of Moose. He is also past president of the Glens Falls Shriner's Association, past presi- dent of the Kiwanis Club, treasurer of the Warren County Tuberculosis Committee, and a member of the Young Men's Christian Association, Mohi can Council of Boy Scouts, and Adirondack Council of Girl Scouts.


He was married, in 1912, to Mary Donais, a native of Glens Falls.


GRAY E. SAFFORD is vice-president and cashier of the First National Bank of Glens Falls, Glens Falls, New York, having been identified with it since 1902 when he entered its service as a clerk. Through the years Mr. Safford was promoted from one position on the bank's staff to another until in 1919 he was elected assistant cashier. In 1929 he was made cashier and in 1932 was elected a vice-president. Mr. Safford is a director of Ken- drick and Brown Company, treasurer of the Glens Falls Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the board of directors of the Glens Falls Community Chest.


Gray E. Safford was born in Greenwich, New York, the son of Charles E. and Jennie D. (Foster) Safford, natives of Greenwich, New York. Mr. Safford has two children : Franklin C. Safford, and Dorothy E. Safford.


IRVING ROBERT JUSTER, M. D .- Following some ten years of varied experience in medical practice and research at New York City, Dr. Irving Robert Juster came to Glens Falls in 1932 and has since been occupied with professional responsibilities in this city. His important work in cardi-

ology has made him well known in this field and has brought him an extended practice as a specialist in internal medicine, particularly diseases of the heart.


Mr. Juster was born in New York City on February 26, 1899, a son of Charles and Minne (Zenker) Juster. His father is engaged in the real estate business in New York.


Irving Robert Juster received his early education in the public schools of New York City and after completing the high school course, entered Colum- bia University. He was graduated from college at this institution in 1920, taking the degree of Bachelor of Arts, and prepared for his profession in the College of Physicians and Surgeons (Columbia), from which he received the degree of Doctor of Medicine in 1922. Dr. Juster served his interneship at New York City Hospital, where he was a member of the resident staff until 1924. During the following two years he was associated with the well-known physician, Dr. I. Jesse Levy, and from 1926 to 1930 was an associate of Dr. Harold E. B. Pardee in the department of cardiology and electro-cardiography, later head of the department of electro-cardiography at New York City Hos- pital, and in the postgraduate medical school of New York Polyclinic School and Hospital. Throughout this period he lectured regularly on cardiology at New York Polyclinic. As a qualified specialist in his chosen field, he also served as chief of the children's clinic at Greenwich House, New York City, from 1926 to 1932 and as a member of the Committee on Cardiac Clinics of the New York Heart Association. From 1928 to 1932 he was medical research director for the New York Cardiac Shop in a special research project carried on under the auspices of the New York Heart Association.


In 1932 Dr. Juster established himself in practice at Glens Falls as a spe- cialist in internal medicine and cardiology and has since occupied an important place in the professional life of the city. In 1934, in addition to his own prac- tice, he became assistant attending physician at Glens Falls Hospital and in 1938 was appointed attending physician, in which capacity he now serves. His part in the work of the institution has been of substantial importance. Dr. Juster is an Associate Fellow of the American College of Physicians, a dis- tinction reflecting his professional standing. He is also a member of the American Medical Association, the New York State Medical Society, the Warren County Medical Society, the Glens Falls Academy of Medicine, the American Heart Association and the Association for the Study of Internal Secretion. He has made a number of contributions to the literature of his profession which have extended his reputation beyond the limits of his imme- diate associations. These include : "Abnormal Electrocardiogram in Patients with Syphilitic Aortitis"; "The Normal Range of the Leucocyte Count De- termined Weekly over an Extended Period"; and "The Significance of Rheumatic Activity in Chronic Rheumatic Heart Disease." Dr. Juster is affiliated with the Tau Epsilon Phi Fraternity and is a member of the Glens Falls Country Club. During the World War period he served with the Students' Army Training Corps.


In 1932 Dr. Juster married Kathleen Waring, who was born in Coving- ton, Kentucky. They are the parents of two children: Ann Waring and Robert Waring.


EDGAR BIRDSALL, M. D .- Extensively engaged in medical prac- tice in Glens Falls, Dr. Edgar Birdsall has specialized in Roentgenology here since 1904.


Dr. Birdsall was born August 21, 1876, son of Dr. Stephen T. and Josephine (Haviland) Birdsall. His father, a native of Orange County, New York, and a graduate of the New York Homeopathic Medical School, degree of Doctor of Medicine, as well as a graduate with the same degree from Hahnemann Medical College, Philadelphia, was engaged in the practice of medicine in Glens Falls from 1884 onward for the rest of his life. The mother, Josephine (Haviland) Birdsall, was born in Queensbury, New York, and is now deceased.
