A prosperous city of 3.000 popula- tion. located on the Ohio river at its confluence with the Great Kanawha. in Mason county, of which it is the county seat. 172 miles below Wheel- ing, 78 below Parkersburg. 60 from Charleston and 200 from Cincinnati. The Ohio River branch of the B & O R R and the K & M Ry pass through the city. Direct communication is also had over the Hocking Vallev route. the railroad station, Kenauga O, being reached by ferry. Point Pleasant dates its settlement from 1775, and has churches of the leading religious dennminations, one of the finest public school buildings in the state, an electric light and water plant. a foundry and machine shop, bottling works, a brick and tile works, one flour mill, one dry dock, an opera house. an ice and cold storage plant. a good hotel. two banks and three newspapers, the Weekly Register. the State Gazette and the Evening News. Two handsome railroad bridges span the rivers, the K & M Ry bridge over the Ohio river and the B & O R R bridge over the Great Kanawha. Lock 11. the last of the series of locks and dams of the Great Kanawha river, is located at this place. The town is sewered and some of the streets are paved with brick.
