PARKERSBURG.


This beautiful city, with a popula- tion of 23.500, is the county seat of Wood county. situated at the conflu- ence of the Obio and Little Kanawha rivers. 94 miles below Wheeling, 395 miles from Baltimore. 195 miles from Circinnati, and 162 miles from Pitts- burg. The city is laid out with broad and regular streets, well paved and sewered, and provided with street cars. It is thoroughly lighted with electric lights, and two large tanks on Prospect Hill furnish it with its water supplv. Coal and gas, both of which are plentiful, are used as fuel. Its fire department is the finest and best equipped in the state. Ample trans- portation facilities are afforded by the Obio River division of the Baltimore & Ohio and the Kanawha Valley rail- roads, the latter having just com- pleted 30 miles of track and will soon be running trains to Burnsville, Brax- ton county. a distance of about 100 miles from Parkersburg. The main line of the B & O R R connects from the east with the B & O Southwestern. whose eastern terminal is at this point and extends from Parkersburg to St. Louis. The Parkersburg & Marietta .. branch of the B & O Southwestern connects with the Zanesville & Ohio. the Cleveland & Marietta. the Ohio Central Lines and the Wabash. while the Ohio River division of the B & O R R extends through the en- tire state from Wheeling to Kentucky.
