SECOND CHURCH OF CHRIST; (SOUTH CONGREGATIONAL.) 91 MAIN ST. Organized Feb. 22, 1670. This third edifice was dedicated April 11, 1827. The dimensions of this building are, 96 feet in length by 68 feet in breadtn, with a portico in front 42 by 12 feet, and a chapel in the rear 86 by 80 feet. The porch is 60 by 16 feet. The audience room is 60 by 77 feet, with galleries. Estimated to seat 1,100 hearers.

ASYLUM HILL CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH.


PARK CONGREGATIONAL CHURCH, (FORMERLY THE NORTH CHURCH,) 890 ASYLUM ST. Organized Sept. 28, 1824. This 2d edifice was dedicated March 29, 1867. This structure erected on the corner of Asy- lum and High streets, and fronting BUSHNELL PARK, has sittings for about 1000 persons, with gallery for organ and choir, costing with land $150,000. Dimensions inside are 115 feet long and 66 wide, height of nave 60 feet, chapel with other rooms in rear and connection therewith is 82 by 40 feet with 500 sittings. A commo- dious chapel with other room for church pur- poses are attached to the rear of the main edifice. This edifice is of the early English ornamented style with true Gothic windows and doors, walls of brown Portland stone in blocks rough hewn. All of the ornamental portions are of the yellow Dorchester or com- ionly called Nova Scotia stone. Services at 10.45 A. M., and 7.80 P. M. 300 members.

The Church edifice is built of Portland stone. The corner stone of the main building was laid May 5th, 1865. The extreme length of the Church and Chapel is 184 ft. The dimensions of the Audience Room of the Church are 112 by 68 ft .; 182 pews; there are 1,050 sittings in the house. The pews are of chestnut deco- rated with black walnut, finished in oil. The Chapel is 65 by 42 feet, and seats 250 persons. The spire is also of stone, 230 feet high from the ground, and the capping stone is 9 ft. in length. Services 10.45 A. M.

CHRIST CHURCH .- EPISCOPAL.


418 MAIN ST. First Organization, 1762. This second edifice of Christ Church was begun in 1827. The corner stone was laid May 13, 1828, and consecrated Dec. 23, 1829. The Church is built of freestone and is 121X feet long and 76 feet wide. It was the first speci- men of Gothic church architecture in this country. The first edifice was wood on op- posite corner to present, began in 1762, finished in 1786, and moved to Talcott st. in 1829. The first Chapel, of brick, was erected in 1836. The chancel, new chapel and parish building on Church st., were opened Dec. 23, 1879. Services Sundays, 8; 10.45 A. M. 3.15; 6.30; 7.30 P. M .; Sunday School at 2.80 P. M. Week days, 9 A. M., 5 P. TRINITY CHURCH .- EPISCOPAL .- 128 SIGOURNEY ST. Organized Sept. 12, 1869. THE corner stone of the first edifice was laid Thursday, Oct. 27, 1860; and the church was consecrated in May, 1861. It was enlarged and improved in 1875. The last service was held in it Jan. 24, 1892, after which it was torn down to make way for a new church which is being built on the same site. This edifice will be 144 feet in length by 623 feet wide, with a square tower 152 feet high. In connection with this there has been already built as a Memorial and gift to the parish a Chapel and Parish house, which are used for services until the new edifice is finished.
