ILLINOIS HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS
MONROE COUNTY (Continued)
John Moore took the census for Monroe County in 1818 and Prince Bryant took both the state and the federal census for 1820. The state census was certified November 2 and the federal census December 4, 1820.
One name found in the state census for 1820 is not found in the federal census though the family is listed in the 1818 census:
154 Nelson, Thomas
Ninety-six families are listed in the federal but not in the state census for 1820. These are interspersed throughout the list, and as the federal census is otherwise more detailed than the state census the one list is probably not a copy of the other but a new enumeration in spite of the fact that they are dated only a month apart. The state census was perhaps taken in the early autumn before the annual post-harvest immigration. The additional names found in the federal census are as follows:
Finley, John Lee,
Phillips, John
Lawrence, John B.
