giving half of it for a school to educate their children Of native preachers, dressed in just a loin cloth, some with shirts only, others just as scantily clad, who had walked one hun- died miles and slept in caves to get to the Con- ference. These men would say" thank you for this appointment Bishop"when they were being sent back to fever-infected districts where men die; this because they had a goal to work for God whatever the cost. The vision had been theirs. This was really a stirring and convincing plea made for foreign work. The Bishop then spoke of Hastings Banda, the african student being educated at Wilberforce. Briefly reciting his history, he told of a plan by which the uncertainty of the fronde for educat. Ing him could be ended. His expenses for schooling, clothes and spending money would amount to approximately 450. for the year. The Mich Missionaries had promised to pay one third, $ 150 per year. The Illinois Missionaries had pledged $150 per year and he desired the Indiana Missionaries to take action upon the other third. The plan was to have a trust fund established by these three Conference Branches to continue until his education is completed. Then he will go back as a Missionary to his native land.
a motion was offered by Mrs. Lena Rameny, anderson and seconded by Marc. Ethel Henry, Muncie, that we pledge our Bishop 150 per year for the education of Hastings Banda.
