[Compact purple slate, about 20 inches high. Small fig. of hour- glass at top, under which is the symbol (cherub ?) of the winged head, sculptured far better than usual. Low down on the right, under the ornamental border, is the number 24,-supposed to indicate the price of the stone. This Dr. Lebarran is the hero of "The Nameless Noble- man." The orthography of the name and occupation indicates that the sculptor was a pupil of the "unlettered Muse" spoken of by Gray.]

Erected to the MEMORY of Mrs MEHETABEL, wife of Capt Thos Atwood. who died Jan. 11, 1809, In tbe 58 year of her age. In early life her feeble constitu- tion gave painful premonition of her early exit. She however unexpectedly passed the meridian of life, dis- charging in a very laudable manner, filial, parental & conjugal duties. At length the seeds of death were planted in her vitals-she sickened, languished & expired in hopes of a blessed immortality.


Short is our longest day of life, And soon its prospect ends Yet on that day's uncertain date Eternity depends.

This Stone is erected to the memory of Henry Otis the second son of Barnabas Otis and Polly his wife who died in the Island of Martinico July 26th AD. 1802, aged 15 years 5 months and 20 days.
