Town Officers.
ARTICLE 2. Before the opening of the polls, specimen Election of ballots, cards of instruction and penalties were posted according to law. The following named Ballot Clerks, Ballot Clerks. appointed by the Selectmen, viz. : John J. Neville, John F. McManns, Byron W. Mylod, James Hogan, Edward P. Tucker, John G. Hollingsworth, and those appointed by the Moderator, viz. : F. A. Fales, Fred L. Fisher, were duly sworn to the faithful discharge of the duties of said office by the Town Clerk.

Tellers.
The following named Tellers were appointed, viz. : William J. Sullivan, Geo. H. Dexter, Eugene L. Murphy, John F. Kiley, John J. Tobin, Patrick F. Brennan, Harry W. Alden, Frank W. Talbot, were sworn to faith- fully discharge and perform the duties of said office by the Moderator.
Ballots.
The Town Clerk delivered to the Ballot Clerks the bundle containing 1260 official ballots, and 240 special official ballots for School Committee only, and their re- ceipt taken for the same.
Voting Lists.
The Town Clerk also delivered two voting lists con- taining the names of 1023 male voters and 197 women voters.
The ballot box was opened and exposed to view, the register set at zero, and voting commenced at 7.05 o'clock A. M.
On motion, voted to close the polls at 4.50 o'clock P. M., at which time they were closed and the ballot box registered 1013. The voting lists were compared and found to agree, with the following result :
Number of names of male voters checked, 849; num- ber of women voters checked, 179.
After the canvass of ballots the tally sheets, voting lists, ballots used and not used were sealed up and delivered to the Town Clerk. The Moderator made the following announcement:

Auditors' Report.
ARTICLE 3. Unanimously voted to accept of the Auditors' Report as printed on page 88 of the 27th Annual Town Report, as follows :
AUDITOR'S REPORT.
We, the subscribers, Auditors of the Town of Nor- wood, have examined the accounts of the Selectmen, Town Treasurer, Collector of Taxes, Cemetery Commis- sioners, Water Commissioners, Trustces of Public Lib- rary, Trustees of Sinking Fund, and all original vouchers on which moneys have been paid from the Town Treasury for the year ending Jan 31, 1899. We find and report that all orders drawn by the Selectmen, Water Commis- sioners, Cemetery Commissioners, and Trustees of Public Library, have been duly vouched, and that the foregoing is a true statement of the sums received and payments made Chas. E. Pond, Town Treasurer, and Edgar F. Roby, Tax Collector, and that the accounts kept by them have been correctly cast and payments duly vouched, and that there remains in the treasury, January 31, 1899, the following amounts :-- Town account, $13,131.73; Water account, $2,105.87 ; Cemetery account, $581.02; Library account, $52.01; making a total $15,870.63. Also that the indebtedness of the town is $108,342.91. The amount of the Sinking Fund is $18,089.09. The Audi- tors would suggest that the accounts of the Cemetery Commissioners be kept more full and complete, While correct, better results would be reached if given more in detail.

Collector Authorized.
ARTICLE 5. Voted to authorize the Collector of Taxes to use the same means as a Town Treasurer may use when acting as Collector.
ARTICLE 6. Unanimously voted, that taxes assessed shall be paid on or before November first, and the Col- lector be authorized to charge interest at the rate of six per cent. on all taxes remaining unpaid at that time.
Authority to Borrow Money.
ARTICLE 7. Unanimously voted, that the Town Treasurer is hereby authorized' to borrow from time to time, with the approval of the majority of the Select- men, a sum or sums in the aggregate not exceeding thirty thousand dollars, and to execute the note or notes of the town therefor, payable in one year with interest. the said debt or debts incurred by a loan or loans to the town under this vote are to be paid from the taxes of the present municipal year.

In the name of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts you are hereby required to notify and warn the inhabi- tants of the town of Norwood, qualified to vote in elec- tions and town affairs, to assemble in Village Hall in said town, on Monday, the third day of April, 1899, at seven o'clock in the afternoon, then and there to act on the following articles, namely :
ARTICLE 1. To choose a Moderator to preside at said meeting.
ARTICLE 2. To see if the town will vote to accept of a new way leading east from Cedar Street, to be known as Quincy Avenue, as laid out by the Selectmen.
ARTICLE 3. To see if the town will vote to accept of the extension of Rock Street to Foundry Street, as laid out by the Selectmen.
ARTICLE 4. To see if the town will vote to accept of the widening and relocation of Walpole Street, between Washington Street and Winter Street, as laid out by the Selectmen, and raise and appropriate money for the same and to pay land damage.

Conveying Children to School, $500.
ARTICLE 19. Voted, that the smn of $500.00 be raised and appropriated to convey children, living in the out- lying districts, to the Norwood schools.
Truant School, $50.
ARTICLE 20. Voted, that the sum of $50.00 be raised and appropriated to pay the expenses of children at the trnant school.

ARTICLE 21. Voted, that the sum of $8,000.00 be Highways, §8000. raised and appropriated for the repairs of highways the ensuing year.
Voted, that the Board of Selectmen appoint a Super- Superintendent intendent of Streets, who shall receive a salary of ten $1000. of Streets, hundred dollars per year. Said Superintendent shall not employ or use any of his own horses or teams on any town work at the expense of the town, and shall not be interested in any town contract. He shall keep a de- tailed account of all work done, and of all material used, and shall make a full report in writing to the Selectmen at the end of the year. which report shall be printed in the town report.
Voted, that Section D of Committee's report be indeti- nitely postponed, and that Section E be not accepted.
ARTICLE 22. Voted. that the sum of $3,000.00 be Concrete Walks and Edge- raised and appropriated for building concrete walks and stones, #3000. for setting edgestones the current year.
Voted. that Sections A and B as recommended in the report of the Committee of fifteen be adopted as follows :
a. On east side of Market Street from Farnsworth's bakery to Railroad Avenue, and 70 feet on said avenue, making complete walk from Washington Street to Nor- wood station, $1.500.00.
b. On north side of Guild Street, from Washington Street, by Guild school, crossing to south side at Linden, and continuing to Broadway, the section already laid out by house of F. E. Everett, $1,500.00.
ARTICLE 23. Voted, that the sum of $1,000 be Paving Gutters raised and appropriated for paving gutters the ensuing $1000. . year.
ARTICLE 24. Voted, that the sum of $1,500 be Grading, $1500. Cross Street raised and appropriated to be expended in grading Cross Street the current year.

Voted, (on the recommendation of the committee of fifteen), that a committee of seven, to consist of the Selectmen and four others, be chosen to consider the question of the drainage of Prospect Street, between Cottage Street and Winter Street, said committee to re- port at a future town meeting.

ARTICLE 26. Voted, that the town do accept that part of Central Street between Guild and Park Street, as laid out by the Selectmen, and that the sum of $200 be raised and appropriated to gravel the same.
Wheelock Ave. $500.
ARTICLE 27. Voted, that the town raise and appro- priate $500 to gravel Wheelock Avenue the present year.
Prospect Ave. 8600.
ARTICLE 28. Voted, that the sum of $600 be raised and appropriated to gravel Prospect Avenue east from Prospect Street, to a wall between land of Messrs. Fisher and White, as far as has been accepted by the Selectmen.
Nichols Street Sidewalk.
ARTICLE 29. Voted, that this article be dismissed from the warrant.
Eliot Street Sidewalk, $200.
ARTICLE 30. Voted, that the sum of $200 be raised and appropriated to build a sidewalk on easterly side of Elliot Street, from Highland Street to Walpole Street.
Pleasant Street Culvert.
ARTICLE 31. Voted, that the culvert across Pleasant Street, near the house of Rea Brothers, be repaired, the cost of same to be taken from the appropriation for the repairs of Highways.
Board of Health. 8500.
ARTICLE 32. Voted, that the sum of $500 be raised and appropriated for the expenses of the Board of Health for the ensuing year.

ARTICLE 33. Voted, that the sum of $200.00 be Trimming raised and appropriated to be expended in trimming Trees, $200. shade trees the current year.
ARTICLE 34. Voted, that the sum of $23,314.46 be Incidental Ex. $30,914.46. raised and appropriated, and that the sum of $7,600.00 be drawn from the Water Board treasury, to defray the incidental and other necessary expenses not otherwise provided for for the current year. Total $30,914.46.
